BF boob production question

I'm EBF LO. For the passed couple of weeks I have noticed that my left boob produces about a forth BM of what my right does. It has become quite noticeable that my right boob is bigger.

I have tried nursing LO on the left side first, pumping that side longer, manual massage... Anyone else having any ideas?

Perhaps I need to see a look lactation consultant. It seems silly though because it's totally just my vanity of looking lopsided that has me worried. LO is getting plenty of BM and I have a hell of a freezer stash.

Just looking for thoughts.

Sorry for the ramble, but it is MOTN.

  • My left produces more than my right and I'm a little lopsided too. Although, my left has always been bigger so who knows if it's from milk supply.
  • I have the same problem. Idk what to do about it either. Since I have no LC in my area I have to ask my pedi and OB and between them they take care of me but they suggested to me to try lactation recipies and always start on the left. I'm not seeing any improvement tho, so I'll talk to my OB on Monday when I got for my PP appt.
  • I've had the same issue with both girls. When I met with a LC with our first, she said that it was totally normal.

  • I EP and my right produces about 4 times as much as the left. I try pumping my left longer and it helped but it still is pitifully smaller. I put a johnson and johnson nursing pad in my left bra so they look even. I produce more than my baby needs so I am just going to live with it.

  • I have read this is normal for one breast to produce more. My right breast also produces 3xs as much as well.

  • Glad you posted this. I was about to post the same discussion. I find that I produce more on my left than on my right...I thought it was because LO had a hard time latching in the hospital on the right side...so I was mainly feeding on the left. But good to know that it is normal.

  • Very normal, unfortunately there is not much that can be done. Lopsided it is.
  • One of the nurses at the hospital said that once I get established I could try block feeding where I only let her nurse my under producer for a few days except to relieve engorgement(on the other side)  to encourage my gimpy side to produce more and my over producer to slow down.. but I'm too scared to screw with my supply to try it.. I'm sad about the lopsided boobs, but as long as she is well fed I'm just going to deal with it.

  • Its reassuring to know its normal. I'm wondering how lopsided I will end up looking. I've never had to stuff my bra before, so this will be interesting.
