Pottery Barn cribs

Anyone own a pottery barn crib? I saw one in the store I really liked but wanted to get some opinions before purchasing. The cribs are cheaper at Target and Babies R Us but I'm really drawn to this one style. I believe it's called the Fillmore crib. Pros or cons?

  • You could always look for a used one. As long as there are no recalls and it's in good condition I would have no problem using one.  They are gorgeous but I wouldn't spend that much on a new crib.
  • Good point. I just want something that will last for years and retain it's look and safety. I'm hoping they'll go on sale around the holiday. It's $550 now but I always get coupons from them. I'm hoping for a 20% off! I had one but of course it expired before I even knew I was pregnant. I'm not too keen on buying a used crib. It's our first baby so I'm planning on getting lots if use out of this one.
  • A lot of cheaper places make really nice looking cribs that will grow with them, I haven't really paid too much attention to price since we're using mine and my brother's old crib.  My nephew just got done with it... And still in good shape, surprisingly. lol  Anyway, like others have said, I have friends who have gotten the more expensive ones and totally regret it.  Apparently kids are like beavers... ;)

  • I wouldn't spend more than like $300 on a crib. You can always spruce it up some to make it look better.
  • I have a PB crib for my first and I love it. I bought the low profile option for petite moms. I'm only 5'2, it makes a huge difference for me. I didn't see this option anywhere else (doesn't mean it doesn't exist though). My bmb from DD1 wishes I'd spoken up when we were shopping because they are all wishing they had one now that they are all using lowered cribs. So, if you are short, it could be worth every penny.
  • We figure we'll have this baby and see how it goes haha. If we do have a second baby I'd want to wait at least 3+ years. I just really liked how the cribs were solid wood and not painted. I'll do some more research and see what other places offer.
  • @mamasoup030‌ great advice! I'm short too...5'. I've never heard of a low profile crib. I'll check to see if the one I like has that option.
  • I have the Kendall. Idk if the other styles have the option. In regards to quality, I love the crib, no complaints and shipping was a breeze. I bought my mattress at buy buy baby, I did think the PB ones were over priced.
  • I adore a Bed, Bath and Beyond crib o saw when DS was about 5 months old... I have no clue if they still make it, but I'd love to have it. If I had money, I probably would because I just loved this crib. But that being said, we have a hand-me-down bed from my in-law's pastor and it worked perfectly fine. We saved our money for a nice car seat and stroller.
  • I love the style of Pottery Barn children's furniture, but I'll never buy it. We bought a $300 crib and thank god because DS chewed the hell out of it when he was cutting front teeth. I would suggest looking for something inexpensive, but safe and stylish. You'll want to kick yourself if your LO chews on their crib rather than their Sophie.

  • My crib was around 250, the manufacturer was davinci, and it is solid wood. It's a beautiful crib, but once my little one got teeth, she gnawed all over it, and it made me slightly happier I didn't spring for the land of nod or pb cribs I was also considering. My advice is to shop around, and if that's the one your heart is set on, by all means, get the one you want, but there are other manufacturers that make a solid quality crib for less!
  • We bought our crib and changing table from a family friend before dd was born. It was originally a very expensive boutique brand convertible crib. After using it for two kids (and the one kid who owned it before us) it really does look like a beaver attacked it. We'll use it for our #3 though... No use in getting a new crib now.

As far as kid spacing, not every child stays in their crib 3+ years. My dd was crawling out of her crib at 15 months and we converted it to a toddler bed. Both my kids were in a full size bed by age 2.

  • You can buy teething protection for the rails to try to thwart the wreckage!
  • Don't do it. DD's nursery furniture is Pittery Barn. By the time she was 6 months old, the finish on the dresser and night stand (neither had seen any abuse because she was only 6 months old and DH and I certainly weren't banging things up against it) were chipping terribly. We won't buy any more furniture from there.

  • FWIW my daughter never, not once, chewed on her crib. We have a $200 crib from target that I do not regret buying (there was a PB one I wanted too). We converted it to a toddler bed at 20 months and will get her a real bed when we need the crib for baby 2.
  • @Modalyn‌ I was surprise so many people mentioned the cribs being destroyed due to chewing. We only looked at PB for cribs to start and every crib had protection rails. I don't think the side rails are something to worry about since they're pretty close together.

I think it is really a matter of personal preference. If you can afford it and like it, then go for it! There is nothing wrong with investing in high end baby furniture. My daughter never chewed on her crib. We converted her to a bed at 20 months and she never chewed on the wooden rail for that either. My daughters bedroom furniture is all from Pottery Barn and 3+ years later still looks as good as new.

  • Hi just read ur post We purchased a pottery barn crib it's beautiful we got the Catalina nursery set But it was expensive And had I known that my son was going to chew the crap out of it We would not of spent the $$$$ go with target
  • I would go for it. The Filmore is offered in gender neutral colors, so you can always use it again. We decided to go with the Emerson crib at PB, which is one of the cheaper options. That was one of my favorites, so it just worked out that the price was lower than the others. They all come with a plastic film to protective from the teething issue on the sides. If you go into the store and order it, you have the option to pick it up yourself and put it together, which avoids the $100 delivery charge.
  • Totally forgot I posted about cribs but we ended up buying the Kendall crib from Pottery Barn in Tuscan. I really love it! We got an amazing deal on it during Black Friday weekend and I couldn't resist. With all the discounts and PB rewards I had it was about the same price as a Babies R Us crib. I didn't take it out of the box yet because we are waiting to have windows replaced but I'm definitely getting really excited to put the baby room together.
  • I'm buying a cheaper crib from IKEA (they are one of the few places that offer a totally non-toxic, no-finish solid wood option and European safety standards are very high), but I'm probably buying an $800 stroller.  Like any purchase, put your money into what's most important to you, don't go too cheap, read reviews, and stay within your budget.
