We had decided that I should be scheduled for CS at 39 weeks but I just found out that she'll be out on vacation that whole week... which means that my scheduled CS will have to be at 39+5. Unfortunately, due to some changes that my Dr. Office went through recently, she's the only one in the practice that still does obstetrics. I'm a little worried that if I happen to go into labor sometime during that week and have to do an emergency CS - she won't be there! and who ever happens to be on call at the hospital will be doing my CS. I'm not worried about the competence of the doctors at the hospital, it's one of the best in town but I feel very uncomfortable with the idea of having a "stranger" attend to me .... Is that unreasonable? What would you feel/do?

Re: OB out on vacation on week 39
It's also very very common for people to NOT be attended by their primary doctor for the birth. I would love it if my doctor is the one who is there, but I know that I just have to go with the flow. I plan to be as prepared as possible so that I can communicate all of my concerns and wishes effectively to someone who doesn't know me well.
I did take her advice and make sure I've at least met all the OB's on call at the hospital so if mine isn't there I at least know who I might end up dealing with.
When I had my daughter the OB on call wasn't mine, but I really didn't care. There were too many other emotions going through me at the time. The last thing I was worried about was who delivered the baby.
this time around, there are 8 or 9 OBs at the practice i go to, and it could be any of them on D-day. my own doctor is only in the hospital one day a week, so my odds of having her deliver beanie are pretty slim, lol. i'm just rolling with it. there really isn't anything i can do about it, and while i'm comfortable with my current OB, i've still only seen her for two brief, routine appointments at this point, so i have no idea what she'd be like in L&D. it's a crapshoot. i'm sure that whoever does your c-section will be competent.
