A Little Panic

I had to go to L&D for decreased fetal movement. Everything checked out fine and LO has moved much more today so I guess that he/she just needed a lazy couple of days. However, they did an u/s and the baby measured between 6-7 lbs. Here is where the bit of panic comes in. I am due 11/23. I have a couple days over 4 weeks left. I was 35w 3d at the u/s and LO measured at 38w 5d. The tech kept saying "this baby has a very round belly". I had an u/s a month ago and baby measured around 3 lbs 6 oz. I know the can measurements off +/- 2 but first 3-3.5 lbs seems like a lot for it to gain in a month and crap if it's anywhere near correct this baby might be huge. Just having a freak out moment.

Re: A Little Panic

  • Very true lol. I'm concerned about the very round belly but I never saw a dr at l&d. I see my dr on Tuesday so I'm going to ask her about it. DD was 8 lbs so I was expecting a nice size baby but I was shocked when she said nearly 7 lbs at basically 35.5 weeks.

  • Oh and I'm not even worried about the delivery part. I just more felt like a bad mother then anything when she said that. But I know better then that.
  • @amadkins197‌ A toddler, lol. My first thought was oh my this baby is going to be the size of a 3 month old. It's just odd cause I haven't gained very much weight at all. I try to avoid the weight posts like a plague so I won't actually say how much. DD was 8 lbs so I'm hoping even if LO is bigger than that I'll be able to have a vaginal delivery. Thanks for your support!

  • I'm in the same boat!  Growth scan showed 8 lbs at 37w and it seems like he's gotten quite a bit bigger since then.  No reason to worry- wasn't there a study in the NYT recently that links higher birth weight to increased intelligence?

  • Try not to let it bother you. The measurements can be so far off that as long as the baby is on the high side, as opposed to having stopped growing, I wouldn't worry about it.

My docs haven't said anything to me about my baby being big (measurements have been around 45th percentile), but this week I decided to google fundal height and see where I'm measuring, and according to the doc's measurements I am above the 100th percentile...which makes no sense. I had a brief freak-out moment thinking my baby will be enormous and something must be wrong, but then I decided that it's probably just how they're measuring. There's nothing I can do about it anyway, ya know?
