Re: Sabaadeel

  • What does that subject mean?

There have been many threads about this before (you can search, or maybe someone can link), but I got an epidural, and it was a good experience.

My water broke naturally at home at 11:30pm, we went to the hospital, I got the epidural around 3am, and DS was born at 5:25am. The epidural definitely made the pain of the contractions more manageable, but I could still feel to push, and I could still feel my legs. I was walking around a few hours later.

Everyone's experience is different, but mine was great, and I will get an epidural with the next baby as long as there is time.

  • My first 2 were great. My 3rd was a rough recovery! I had a "epidural headache" which was excruciating to say the least. I was bed ridden, unable to hold and care for my baby because the pain was horrendous! I finally got a blood patch after he was already a week old which fixed the problem.
Just for 2 days later to land myself back in the hospital for having stroke symptoms.
I would have these 'strokes' a few times a day for another 10 or so days.
Thankfully I wasn't having real strokes, but was diagnosed with hemiplegic migraines.

    Good luck !!

  • I also came because I was really confused by the subject.

  • Not to scare you because I would definitely do it again I had a kind of rough experience with the epidural. With my first I asked for epidural and they called someone in. It was a resident. I thought nothing of it. My H was wearing the mask for this part and he held my hands through the whole thing. I am definitely not a needle person. I just stared at his eyes the whole time.

The resident tried to get it in and failed, she tried a second and third time and couldn't get it. This all took about 45 minutes. She said "three is my limit" and they finally went to get the anesthesiologist. The anesthesiologist had it in quickly on the first try. They checked on me in the middle of the night and I was still in a lot of pain. The new anesthesiologist then told me that the amount of medication was way too low for my height. He corrected it and I finally had relief. I did end up with a Csec but for while I was in labor it was a blessing.
  • This is also my third baby, and I had an epidural for each of my previous births. My first was an induction, the epidural worked well, and I had an overall good birthing experience.
I went into labor naturally with my second, and got an epidural at the last minute. It did not on work on one side, and I absolutely hated being confined to bed because of it. I also had a strange sensation in my spine where the epidural had been administered for several weeks afterward--not exactly pain, but definitely discomfort.
I am not planning to get an epidural for this baby.

  • I had an epidural for my ER csection and it was pretty awesome. Is there any specific questions you had about an epidural?
