1st Trimester

Dr. Question

My mind is rolling a million miles a minute right now, but the thought of calling the doctor entered my mind.  I'm scheduled for my yearly on 1-20-09.  If you go by my O date, I will be just about 4 weeks then.  Should I call them and let them know about the +HPT, or just show up and be like, "by the way, I'm almost 4 weeks along."? WWYD?

Re: Dr. Question

  • I would call and let them know. At my OB's practice, they do certain appointments at certain times/on certain days. I would call, explain that you have an appointment for a regular exam on the 20th, and that you just got a +HPT. They might not want to see you until 8 weeks anyway (a lot of offices wait).

  • Just so I understand, you will be 4 weeks pregnant in 15 days?  Or are you counting your O date as day 1, and at 1/20 you will be 6 weeks?

  • I would just call them and let them know. They might keep the appt the same time. Or maybe move it back a little bit. Just to give them a heads up cant't hurt

  • I think I would just call but I'm sure it doesn't really matter too much if you decide not to.

  • Ditto- let them know so they'll be prepared to run your bloodwork, etc.

  • Regardless of how far along you'll be, you should let your doctor know ahead of time.
  • I would call and let them know. The same thing happened to me, I called and they actually saw me sooner when they found out I was pregnant. OB visits are at different times than GYN visits at my doctor's office. They also had me come in before my first "real visit" to pee in a cup to confirm the pregnancy and to give me pre-natal vitamins.
  • I think you would be more like 6 weeks because you count from you LMP.  I would call.  Mine wants me to bring in first morning urine.  I guess they don't trust the bloodwork and ultrasounds my RE does.
  • Once again, thank you ladies!  I will probably call and let them know what's up.  My yearly will be my first appointment at an OB/GYN's office.  I've always gone throught the health unit here for my yearlies.  It's all just so new!

  • I have a ticker now so I know how far along I am.  I feel kinda like a dork--my math skills are not good on a Monday morning. lol

  • Is your doc an OB or a GYN?

the same thing happened to me. I was scheduled with my GYN for my yearly and got pregnant a couple weeks before. I called and they said not to bother coming in for my yearly but to make an appt with an OB instead (they did have me come in just to do the blood preg test though). They said even if they did my yearly pap at the GYN the OB would probably want to do their own anyway, so it saves you from an extra pap and a little extra expense. Call and see what they want you do to.
