Anyone want to offer solidarity, support, or non Dr. Google-based wisdom about late talkers to hold me over until we next see LO's pediatrician? At 15 months, her doctor wasn't concerned because she clearly understands a lot of spoken language (follows simple directions, points to body parts she knows the name of, etc.) and babbles with a variety of consonant sounds and speech-like inflection. Within the last two or three weeks, she's finally started to watch and listen while I read to hear, which is encouraging, and she's used the sign for milk once in a while. This mama could really stand to hear a "mama" soon, though. I'd even go for "no" at this point. Do any of you, particularly those with older kids, have any experience with late talking and/or speech therapy? TIA!

That's pretty much it.
I think he is trying to say "what's that? " but maybe I'm just imagining it because it just kinda sounds like 'dat.'
Ds2 didn't talk much, and finally they discovered he had fluid in his ears so everything he heard was muffled. They said he heard what we would hear if we were under water and someone was talking to us.
He had to have his ears drained and within days he was saying words.
Doc wasn't concerned at 15 months. He could see our worry when he asked about words. He said that early speech does not have an effect on intelligence. As long as he is comprehending what we are saying. Our doc retired after our last appt so we will be seeing someone new at 18 months. We'll see what she thinks then.
We finally got on the wait list this morning and I found out the wait list is EIGHT TO TEN MONTHS. So if we still having problems she wouldn't even be seen until after she's 2! I'll have to consider other options in a few months I think if there's no progress. Although I have no idea what other options there is. I'm quite sure this is a Canadian thing and the states is different.
