Halloween costume for work

I don't usually dress up but they are having a contest at work on Halloween. I am not big on elaborate costumes but I found an idea that's simple. Its a ceiling fan. I attached examples. What do you think... Funny or dumb? I have an odd sense of humor.

Re: Halloween costume for work

  • They are giving away prizes and encouraging everyone to dress up.

  • Loading the player...
  • Yick, I hate it when work does stuff like that.

I mean, when I was an elementary teacher, cool.  But most workplaces?  Newp.

  • Yeah, so you guys are confirming my worry about dressing up. I get so self conscious. But a $100 gas card sounds really nice... :|

  • I always wear Halloween scrubs as its my only option.
  • I work in social services and our office has a halloween party and everyone is encouraged to dress up.  Upper management are usually the ones that tend to dress up more than everyone else!  It's just a nice break from our usual business wear and our clients really enjoy seeing everyone dressed up!

  • LOL @AprilMay9‌ its funny that you say that about the cookies because they are also doing a Halloween potluck and I am bringing a pumpkin pie cake. Not exactly cookies but still, you would hate my workplace apparently.

  • I think the ceiling fan idea is funny! I say wear something that's easy to take off and return to "normal" after the contest is over.
  • ^^ my director brings them in all the time. She's one of the most highly respected people in the office.

My employer wins the cookie games.

  • If participating in the contest puts a smile on your face, then go for it. I seriously doubt you are going to be passed up for promotions or taken less seriously because you participated in a costume contest that lasted one day out of 365. Get your gas card!! :)

We have contests here too. People get super elaborate and they send out emails with a poll for us to vote. It's always the same people every year and it's never the CFO, president, coo, etc.

This is up there with my rule never to bring cookies to work if you want to be taken seriously.

Hell no I love people who bring cookies! But it's the admins and lower level staff who do it. I've never seen a manager bring in a homemade treat. Store bought is totally fine. But I don't want my colleagues to see me as Betty homemaker.
That statement makes me sad. In my last office job people from whatever level brought in food, just whoever liked to cook, and I think viewing "homemaker" as a negative characteristic for a professional is pretty terrible.

  • @smushi and @lorimc12 I'm dressing up as "The beach lady" because let's be honest, half my kids call me some variation of "speech lady" "beach teacher". I'm going to wear floaties, shorts sunglasses and put zink oxide on my nose. I'll probably also carry a pail and shovel around.
  • @speechie517, that's funny!  We aren't allowed to have costumes at my school.  Lame.  We have "harvest parties".

  • The school I worked at in NYC was like that. We had a "dress like a character from a story day" though.

    Ouch.

My employer, manager, coworkers of all levels and our clients bring homemade cookies and pies....,
