maturnity Photo shoot?

So I am 28 weeks with my first. And am very excited! My husband's friend is a well known photographer in my area and he offered to do our maturnity photos and newborn photos for free as a baby shower gift so I am extremely thankful he offered. My question is, when should my husband and I schedule them for? My baby girl is due the end of December so it's going to start getting cold soon and I had my heart set on doing them outdoors (if it doesn't work out I'll live) but just curious as to when some of you mama's out there did yours?

Re: maturnity Photo shoot?

  • I had maternity photos taken at 29 weeks with my first and 31 weeks with my second. I was very happy with them both times. I carry my babies way out in the front, so I looked very pregnant at that point, even though I still had over two months to go. I think the "goal" for most women is to get the photos when they look obviously pregnant but before they get so big as to be uncomfortable and feel unattractive. (Not that you will BE unattractive, but some women feel that way.) So it's really a personal preference. Some women get a little "puffy" towards the end and prefer to do photos before that point.

  • Some of the most gorgeous maternity sessions I have seen done are in the freezing ass cold including snow.

    But 32/36 weeks is best
  • I'm 37 weeks and just did mine yesterday :D
  • We did ours when I was 37 weeks but that's because it was a last minute things. I would have done them around 32-35 weeks though if I could have.
  • We had ours done yesterday @ 34 weeks.
  • We did ours when I was 31 weeks 2 days- I am glad I didn't wait any longer!
  • I am a photographer and I don't like to schedule first time moms until 35-36 weeks. I be your photographer will have a suggestion. Also don't forget to schedule babies portraits right away after he/she is born because babies don't like to be posed very much after 2 weeks old.

Does it snow where you live because snowy maternity photos are gorgeous!
  • I'm doing mine at 32 weeks
  • I had mine done Monday at 29 weeks. A little early, but we were doing outside shots and I wanted to be sure to get all the fall tree colors in the background, etc. And honestly, I also wanted to make sure I did it at a time where I still felt comfortable and not like a whale :) Because I can already feel those days creeping up very soon. I wanted to be able to look back on them positively and not feel self-conscious.
  • I had mine done at 35 weeks and I think it worked out great.
  • Also had mine done at 35 weeks, in the snow at almost zero Fahrenheit and I love how they turned out! I wore long johns underneath everything and kept my coat open to show off my bump. Keep your session shorter if you do it in the cold, after 45 minutes I had enough.
  • Ask your photographer mine has certain weeks she prefers for momma's to be. I think she recommends not befor 34 weeks
