Coffee and keeping it a secret

How are you all doing keeping this a secret at work? (If you are).

Coworkers keep letting me know that I look sick and exhausted (so nice huh? lol). I was using the small cold I had as an excuse and now I just keep saying that I am not sleeping well.

I usually have a coffee with me in the morning and they have noticed this missing! One coworker asked if I woke up late and didn't have time to get one. Another asked if my machine was broken. I have started carrying around a reusable coffee cup that has a lid and putting water or ginger ale in it lmao.

I have had one coworker tease me that if she didn't know better she would think I were pregnant and then giggle a lot.

Not helping either that j had to leave the lunch room the other day because of all the smells!

Not sure how long I can keep this a secret!!

Re: Coffee and keeping it a secret

  • I usually have coffee as well, and when someone asked why Im not drinking it i just say that ive given up Caffeine. But i did start bringing in Hot decaf tea with me in the mornings so that is in my travel mug.

  • Work has been the hardest for me. I haven't seen my family since I found out, so that hasn't been as hard. I'm tired all day, have headaches, and have been super moody and emotional. I just started a new job about a month ago so I'm not close enough to anyone at work that I want to share it, but I'm surprised no one has suspected it yet.

  • I just get my coffee half caf. My last pregnancy, the smell if coffee made me sick so I told people that I was cutting back on caffeine because I had an eye twitch (which is actually true for me at times).

  • Yeah I haven't had coffee in almost 3 weeks because I can't stomach the smell of it! No one said anything and if they do I'll just say I gave it up
  • I'm a coffee addict and everyone knows it. I started sneaking instant packets of decaf in. They're better than I thought. Plus it gives me the illusion of caffeine so I'm happy. I do have to wrap it in a tissue to throw away bc if someone saw it in the trash I know people would start proding for who it belonged to. Nosey office ladies! :)
  • I think I've figured out a pretty good solution. I'm blending 50/50 caf/decaf, pouring about half a cup and mixing with half a cup of milk. Given I've never been a big milk drinker, this has been a tasty solution! I've gotta have my morning jo!
  • I found this website pretty helpful. Make sure you note their serving size before you freak out. ;)https://www.cspinet.org/new/cafchart.htm
  • I drink one cup of coffee now, I used to have maybe 2-3 cups a day plus a tea and a diet soda as well.

I have cut the additional caffeine beverages. I bought a case of caffeine free dt coke, but that's just not the same....lol

  • I love folgers 1/2 caf.
It makes my life easier and i still get some caffeine in the morning which is muy importante!
As far as hiding it at work, I would rotate excuses for why you look rough.
Epic period. Husband or SO is snoring at night so you can't sleep well.
  • I told two people at work. I don't really drink coffee but I can total out a 2 liter of Pepsi on a bad day and they kept asking about it and my multiple trips to the loo. Well now it's more peaceful but I worry if something goes wrong about telling a stranger lol
  • Not a coffee drinker, but a Diet Dr Pepper addict here.  I would stop to get a 44 ounce on the way to work every morning.  I still stop but get a 20 ounce now and fill it up with half ice.  I am okay with having some caffeine.  Cutting it out completely would give me wicked headaches.
  • Like others have noted, you can have some coffee as a little caffeine per day is not going to hurt anything.  If you are quitting it cold turkey, is decaf an option at work?

  • I'm not a coffee drinker (ew) but I'm a HUGE pop addict! I probably have 3-4 cans a day :\">

I've been trying to switch it up to no caffeine pops (root beer, sprite) and just drinking water at home so nobody at work will notice. So far, so good!

I do like the idea of putting fake drinks into a disposable coffee cup though!

  • I drink one half caff a day. I need the babe to be accustomed to it before it gets caffeine through breast milk.
  • I switched to decaf and initially it was horrible, but it is getting better. When I first switched I had a horrible pounding headache for 3 days and would just sit at my desk and cry. 2 weeks later and the headaches are gone, I am slightly less exhausted each day, and the crying is less frequent.

I had a pretty raging coffee addiction though!

  • No problem, @housewifebecomesher‌! Given my reliance on coffee, it was a necessity that I find out exactly how much caffeine is in what. ;)
  • I take a decaf. You're allowed to one cup of caffeinated coffee a day but I rather take the decaf.

It's good to have because I have gotten into a bad habit of grabbing an iced coffee at Panera or Dunkin (Starbucks is too far away) and then wanting a cup from my Keurig late in the day.  It looks like if I don't have any other caffeine I'd still be below the "legal limit"

    :)

  • I've got to have my one cup of morning coffee!!! I used to make my coffee super strong so I just cut it by half. ☕️
  • Agree with PP, I've been drinking half caf and cut down to one a day.

I saw this posted by someone else on this board before, but I reccomend reading "Expecting Better" by Emily Oster. Great reccomendation! She gives a very statistical and scientific based reason to the do and don'ts of pregnancy. I found it very enlightening and it calmed a lot of fears from things I heard you shouldn't do. Hope this helps!
