Bringing homemade bread in baggage/on vacation?

Hi!  So, even though I haven't nursed either of my two MSPI babies in several years, about 2 years after weaning I suddenly woke up one day and found MYSELF with a MSPI.  So, we are going to Disney in 10 days, and I'm in a panic about what I will eat, as even the tiniest bit of soy (even soybean oil) will have me in the bathroom and doubled over with stomach pain for 3 days.  It won't send me to the hospital, but it WILL ruin my vacation :-(

We have a dining plan, but are planning on eating breakfast some days in the room and bringing lunch some days to the park with us so we can use our dining credits on nicer meals and not spend as much time in restaurants.  We are getting a grocery order delivered to the room with cereal, almond milk, and stuff for PB&J sammies, as well as fruit, etc., for snacking.

So, since virtually EVERY commercial bread contains soy, I've been using my bread machine and making my own at home.  My question is - do you think I can make a loaf, and use my Food Saver to vacuum seal individual slices and pack it in my checked baggage?  Do you think it will stay good?  We have a  mini-fridge in the room, so I can put it in the freezer when we get there and defrost as needed.  Will the Food Saver squish the slices so I can't use them?  Will the TSA rummage through my bag and flag me for security?  Is this a really weird thing to do?  This is our first vacation, we usually just drive 2-3 hours away for 2-3 days as a "vacation", so I'm not sure what to do :-(  I don't want to be completely at the mercy of Disney Dining for every single meal!

  • Disney makes their bread at an on-site bakery, so you could call and see if their bread contains soy. I was there over the summer. I'm on a top 8 free diet because DD3 has a ton of food protein intolerances, and the chefs were awesome. They prepared special meals for me, and DD3 didn't have any issues while we were there. Also, it seemed like they use a lot of olive oil instead of other oils. If you bring your safe bread and it doesn't travel well, you definitely won't starve.

  • I guess you are already gone and back... but just wanted to suggest Stonemill breads, they are soy free. Whole foods usually carries them.
