1ST pregnancy! Nervous!

Hi everyone!!  Congrats to all the BFP... I now know what it feels like and I'm feeling total SHOCK!

I just wanted to share with everyone that my FIRST symptom was a sinus infection.  I thought "Hmm no fever?  Stuffy nose but not feeling THAT bad??"  tested..and BFP!

Three in a row!  EDD : July 2nd

First appointment NOV 5

eeeeeeek!!

Re: 1ST pregnancy! Nervous!

  • Welcome and congrats!

Are they going to do an ultrasound at your first appointment? If so, you may want to schedule it a week or two after. With my daughter, my first appointment was at 6 weeks, and it was too soon to see the heartbeat. I had to wait until 10 weeks to find out if the pregnancy was viable. I wish I would have just waited one more week for the first appointment.

  • Oh really? Also my 1st pregnancy and really nervous too. My first ultrasound has been scheduled for Nov 8th (8 weeks from last period) Is it too early?

8 weeks should be okay, I just wouldn't do it at six weeks.

  • Congrats OP!

Are early ultrasounds the norm?  I feel like I read about them a lot on here, but don't know many people in real life who have them before the 20 week anatomy scan.

I think it depends on your doctor.
I'm getting an early u/s because of my past history. (miscarriages + still born, they want to make sure things are on track).  Typically, my practice just does 1 midway u/s.  And the 12 week NST if you opt in.  But nothing earlier.

    OP- congrats!!

So went back to the Hospital and saw a different Dr who changes the date to Dec 9th (12 weeks). Seems that is more suitable than 8 weeks.
  • Welcome and congrats, we are due date twins! Also, I had the same symptom. Stuffy nose but no cold or fever. Weird!

Wouldn't that make you a June baby then? I know I won't be 8 weeks until Nov 19 and my EDD is July 2nd.

  • Last period was Sept 25th.. So are most of you saying not to go to the doc on the 5th @6 wks? My understanding is the initial visit will mainly focus on bloodwork, medical history and urine analysis. I'm new to the area I am in so this will also be a first visit with this doc.

Thanks ladies! And congrats to all

If that is all they are going to do, then that is fine. Some places will do a confirmation ultrasounds. I was given the choice to make my first appt anywhere between 6-8 weeks. Of course, I was excited, so I made it at six weeks. I really just wish I would have done 7 or 8 weeks, because we were unable to see the heartbeat at that time. It made for a really long and nerve-wracking wait for the next appointment. I would just call your dr. and ask what to expect at your first appointment. If they do an ultrasound, I would ask to reschedule. If they don't, then I would keep it.

  • I had my first pregnancy appt at 6 weeks and they saw the baby and heartbeat for my first pregnancy. I think 6 weeks is perfectly fine. Your doctor wouldn't have scheduled it if they didn't think you needed to be seen. I just went in at 4w5d on Monday for an appt and I'm going back in 2 weeks for my ultrasound. Just do what you and your doctor think is best. :)
  • Thank you Emily!! I was nervous for a min since this is my first pregnancy but glad to hear it's normal these days!
  • Welcome and congrats!
  • Congratulations! We are due date twins as well!! My first app is fuming week 9. This is all so new but exciting!
  • Welcome and congrats! I am having a six week appointment but not for an ultrasound. I'm waiting till 8 weeks got that I think. But all drs are different.
  • @Knottie47406909‌ My first symptom is a sinus infection as well! It kinda sucked since I was flying yesterday... Sinus infections and high altitudes don't mix!
