PSA: Major airbag recall affecting several brands from 2000 - 2008

There's a major airbag recall affecting multiple car brands - BMW, Chrysler, Ford, GM, Honda, Nissan, Subaru and Toyota. Nearly 8 million cars impacted. This is a pretty urgent recall. Getting into a accident right now with these airbags could result in death.
There is something about the issue that particularly effects cars in warm, humid states. Per the NHTSA, "the message comes with urgency, especially for owners of vehicles affected by regional recalls in the following areas: Florida, Puerto Rico, limited areas near the Gulf of Mexico in Texas, Alabama, Mississippi, Georgia, and Louisiana, as well as Guam, Saipan, American Samoa, Virgin Islands and Hawaii."
