Jaw pain from delivery??

Before, during, and after my c section I was really shakey...chattering teeth, clenching jaw, etc. Now 5 days out I can still barely open my mouth because it is so sore and tense, especially the left side. Any tips how I could loosen it up? I can barely eat a sandwich!

Re: Jaw pain from delivery??

  • Mine has been hurting since two days before delivery. So for four weeks it has hurt if I open it too wide. I have a dentist appointment in 2 weeks and hope it is resolved by then. In the meantime I'm taking ibuprofen.

    Hope you feel better soon

  • Maybe try some hot compresses to relax the muscles too?

Can't answer you in terms of pp yet, but I had this happen after I had all 4 wisdom teeth surgically removed last summer
Massaging the jaws helped and I lived off stuff I didn't have to chew: cottage cheese, soup, Keifer, etc

Good luck! Let us know what works for you

PP has some great advice. Staying away from chewy foods, gum, opening wide, alternating hot and cold compresses as well as massaging your TMJ joint (right by where your ear is) should all help. You basically just bruised or over exerted your jaw and it needs time to heal. Watch yourself throughout the day to make sure you aren't clenching. If you are clenching or grinding at night you should wear a night guard. Good luck, I hope it feels better soon.
