Really stupid question about tights.

Please humor me. I am new at girl stuff. When you out tights on with a onesie do the tights go over the onesie or underneath? Assuming your LO is wearing a dress.

Re: Really stupid question about tights.

  • I've only put tights on DD when she was wearing a dress so I'm curious as well.

  • It would depend on the outfit, I guess. If I had the onesie as an underneath layer for warmth I'd probably put the tights outside - assuming there was also a diaper cover/bloomers involved. If the onesie was the outside layer under a skirt then I'd put tights under the onesie. We only have one dress that gets tights with it, though. Everything else gets leggings.
  • under the onesie. but if she has a dress on , why a onesie

I have two outfits that are a long sleeved onesie and jumper/dress. Like the one in the pic below.

  • Thanks for asking the question I had no clue either
  • I always did tights over the onesie seemed like a lot going on over the diaper under the onesie
  • Glad you asked this as I will likely be putting DS in white tights as part of his Halloween costume. I had wondered the same. Where can I find white tights cheap? Looked at target yesterday, didn't see any, but maybe I was in the wrong section?

  • All I can think of is what a mess tights would be inside or outside of the onesie in the case of a poopsplosion. Glad I have a boy!
Never had one! Cloth diapers FTW!
IMPOSSIBLE! I use cloth and he had such a bad explosion yesterday it was in his hair!!!!! Granted, they are infrequent, but his poops are still sooooo watery. I am sorry to hijack cute thread and turn it into poop. ;(

  • under the onsie. The onsie helps keep the tights in place, also I hate the way tights look at the top with all the stitching. Onsies cover it up in case the dress rides up... which it will.

Seriously though! little baby dresses are so cute, but when the baby is little the dress rides up when the baby is rolling around on the floor.. or it gets covered up by car seat straps/blankets/etc.

  • Under the onesie, the exception is ruffle butt tights which go over the onesie.
I agree!  I find that the onesie helps keep the tights from being pulled off.  You can always add a cute diaper cover/bloomers over the bottom of the onesie too if you want :)

  • I say over, keep the tights from falling down and covers up the ugly stitching of the top of the tights.   I have boys though, so I don't get to experience this conundrum.

Haha, I think I took it to poop first. I'll take the blame on that one! And Lala, I was jealous for a hot minute about your lack of poopsplosions in your sweet little cloth diapers... But then I got real excited about throwing away diapers instead of diaper laundry. Some days I wish we did cloth, but it sounds like some serious dedication is involved!
  • @ccollins06‌ - we got some at Children's Place. They were only $2.50.

I ended up going under the onesie. But with ruffled tights I would definitely go over.

  • I was just thinking about this in the other night when I couldn't sleep- thanks for posting!

  • Tights on the outside, because I only own ruffle bum tights. Why buy any other kind?
