  • My OB recommends them for pregnant patients.  I will get mine at my next appt.  I researched it a lot with my first pregnancy and ultimately decided that the risks of the flu were greater than the risks of the vaccine.

  • I got mine the day before we found out! I would have anyway... I'm paranoid about germs!
  • I got mine about two weeks after I found out. They just can't give you the spray it has to be the shot.
  • Yes definitely! Better than to risk getting the flu while pregnant. I got it last time and there were no issues. Getting it again soon.
  • As per pps - recommended.

That said, they are stabbing me enough in order for me to have a baby without these "optional" stabbings.
  • I didn't with my first and don't think I will with this one. My midwife always advised me to do my research and make my own decision, my family doctor at the time advised me not to get it.

  • Going to ask my Dr on Monday when I have my first appointment, but I am almost positive she is going to give me one in the office. In reality I am fine with it, I am also going to recommend DH get one, He never had before but usually gets pretty sick every winter and I dont want to take any chances this winter!

  • Yes and Yes!  I got mine in September before we conceived, but I would get one now if it wasn't already done.  I got H1N1 back in 2009, and it's was the sickest I've EVER been.  I've gotten a flu shot every year since.  Pregnant or not pregnant, no one wants the flu.

When I got mine this year, the needles were different than what I've gotten before.  It was tiny and I didn't feel anything other than the thingie they tie around your arm first.

My husband and I both got one, as did the friends/family members who I'm around the most.  If you get the flu, it could be devastating for your baby!  Unless you have a medical reason that prevents you from getting it, there is really no legit reason for you not to get the flu shot, especially while pregnant!  (I'm not directing this part of my post directly at you, @Schnurette, but everyone in general.)
    Lol no worries!

I actually discussed it with my doc when I was pregnant last time (he knows my issues with needles...I go a little beyond the norm for needle related distress) and he said because I work in a small office (even smaller now - it's just me most days) and because DD goes to a home daycare (only 4 kids) instead of a daycare center there was really no need for me to get the shot. Oh, and DH works in a small company too, it's just him, his boss and one co-worker and we live in a super small town so it's not like I'm exposed to a ton of people when I leave the house too.
  • I'm not getting one. I have horrible reactions to flu shot and have been terribly sick for months each time I've had one. I have not had one in at least 7 years and have had a few minor colds only. My mom has very similar reactions. I will discuss with my doc at appt in a few weeks but I doubt I will change my mind. She had been fine with me not getting one due to my reactions previously.
  • It is recommended that all pregnant women get the flu shot. I have never had it in my life but am considering it this year..

  • Got mine yesterday. My OB said to get it as soon as possible.  I went to Walgreens and it was completely covered by my insurance, and the needle was soooo teeny tiny I couldn't feel it.

Also I filled out the form and checked the 'pregnant' box, so the pharmacist gave me preservative free- she said that is what is recommended.  (my OB hadn't mentioned that.)

  • I got mine on Monday when we took our DD to the doctor for her virus/cold. My arm hurt like someone had punched it for two days!

    Pregnancy Ticker
  • I will be getting mine this afternoon at my first OB appointment. We had a flu shot clinic at work two weeks ago but I was advised against getting it then due to them using the multi-dose vials that contain Thimerosal. My Ob only uses the single-dose Thimerosal free shots.

  • That was the first thing my RE told me to do after saying "congrats." She just said be sure to get the shot not the nasal spray thing, because the nasal vaccine can have live virus in it. Also, obviously, be sure you're not allergic to anything in the vaccine before you take it!

  • I need to track down a preservative free flu shot. I havent had a flu shot in years because I always feel like death afterwards so I'm hoping maybe I'm just sensitive to the preservatives in the regular shot? Cross your fingers for me, ladies - it's the beginning of the crazy season at work and I do NOT have time to be down and out.

I've never had it either and I am weary for my first time to be when I'm pregnant. You never know what your reaction could be. I also have never had the flu. I take extra care to wash my hands, don't touch my face, and steer clear of sickies.
  • Absolutely! When I got mine they gave me the preservative free version since I was pregnant. I didn't even know that was a thing, but if you're nervous about that sort of thing maybe ask if they have that available.
This.  But this time around...I got it when I was pregnant but didn't know yet!  So, ALL the preservatives.  Haha, seriously though it's recommended.  DD got hers too.

  • I understand the way our pregnant immune systems work. I just don't feel super confident in the flu vaccine or its effects. I think it's one of those things where you need to be comfortable with the decision and feel like it's more helpful than harmful. We definitely shouldn't pressure others if they don't feel safe doing so.
  • I think I will for sure consult my DR at my next appointment in November.

Oh, there's no pressure here.  Just stating facts.  Scientifically proven facts along with the correlating recommendations.  But if you just "don't feel like" it, then that's your decision.  Your body, your baby.
    AMEN. To science.

  • Thank you!! I did a lot of research and glad that others decided to get the shot.  I got mine on Friday :)

  • I think it's pretty irresponsible to ignore science and not get the shot, IMO.  I always get one (I'm an elementary teacher with a husband with a lung disease, so...), but it's even more important now.

  • I usually don't get one but I did this year because I'm pregnant
  • I'm opting out, as always (even in previous pregnancies). Yes, I've done my research. No, I don't need your snark. Good day to you.
  • Yup and already got mine.

  • Getting the flu while pregnant is more dangerous to the fetus than whatever "risks" are inherent in the shot (which is essentially none for people who don't have an allergy).
    Pregnancy Ticker
  • My work did a flu shot clinic, coincidentally, the day after I got my BFP. I got my shot after reading up on the CDC website about the flu shot and pregnancy.
