Would you use vitamins after the date stamped on the label? It usually says something like "maximum potency guaranteed before x date."

Sure, how much less potency can a few months make? I use them until they are gone.

I toss them if the date is more than a year ago.

  • I don't take vitamins because I always forget... every couple of weeks I remember and then the next day I forget again...

  • I will finish them off if there aren't many left and it's only been a month or 2 past expiration.
  • Yeah, I'll continue to take them until they are gone. I mean, I wouldn't pop open a bottle that's been expired for a few years and chow down on them but I don't think a couple months is going to make that big of a difference?
  • @hollandmama‌ I am sorry for that woman's loss, but remember correlation =/= causation.

@Bmore721 I know... but how sad she thinks it was that, I'd guess any doctor would contradict that.

For a shelf stable tablet, I would still take it if its within a year if there weren't many left and I wanted to finish them off. If it was something that had to be refrigerated, I would probably go a month. If it was a soft gel, I would probably give it a couple of months past and then toss.
Thanks @Byjove03 - yeah, I have a bottle of shelf stable tablets. No idea why I bought a 400 count bottle. I don't even remember when and where I bought it.  :-??

Thanks for all the comments and votes, everyone. I'm not even going to read that link, @hollandmama... It sounds like it's not a happy tale. :(
