Feedback on names.

Good morning! Hope you all don't mind if I post this here, I'm a little scared of the baby names board but I could use some feedback. H and I have chosen a boy's name, but we're totally stuck on a girl's name. We've narrowed it down but there is no front-runner, most of the names we're either meh about, or we don't love the nicknames. I want to make sure that I'm not missing something like an awful nickname, and I don't want to choose a name that most other people are going to hate. TIA for any feedback! I'm including some of our reservations in the poll too.

Re: Feedback on names.

  • My niece is Juliana, and while I loveeeee the name (used to be my favorite girls name), the various iterations are really common and she'll be called Julie, Julia, Juliette, and both Juli-AH-na and Juli-EH-na.

I voted Camilla as it's beautiful, not typical, and I don't have a clue what you're talking about with Gonzo. I also like Abigail, but not quite as much as Camilla.

In the muppets gonzo has a girlfriend who is a chicken named camilla.  I *may* be hyper-sensitive to this because in elementary school there was a really popular 80's toy that had a name that sounded similar to my last name so people would tease me about it and it annoyed the crap out of me.  My H thinks I'm insane :-)  I just want to make sure we consider everything!

  • I love Camilla and don't think anyone will make the connection to Gonzo!  As for nicknames, if you are consistent and never call her the nicknames, people will get the idea that her name is just Julianna (or Isabelle).  My husband is Anthony and no one calls him Tony.  I also have a friend Elizabeth who is just Elizabeth :)  So it can work!

  • When I hear Camilla I don't think of Gonzo I think of the flowers and the brand of red beans.

Of those names my fav is prob Juliana.
    Fucking bump!!!!
  • Do they still play the Muppets show? I didn't recognize the reference either but I love the name Juliana or Isabelle! But I voted for Juliana since I like that a tiny bit more!

I consider myself quite the Muppet connoisseur and had no idea that Gonzo's GFs name was Camilla. I really love Milla for short too! I think that you won't have any issues with Gonzo! But I should add I love Gonzo!! And the recent muppet movie with Jason Segel has the most amazing sound track. :)

  • I voted Adriana, it was one of my choices for DD, didn't end up using it though.

Here's a thought, what do the names mean? For us it came down to the significance of the name. Whether it was a family name or a passing popular phase. Cuz classic names like Isabelle will outlive Twilight.

I have seriously seen so many babies named Abigail in the past year it's ridiculous, but if you really like it. Go for it. It's like the Jennifer and Ashley names growing up, so many lol!

Camillia, isn't that Prince Charles significant others name? At least it reminds me of it.

  • I voted Camilla.  I hadn't thought of it, but when I read it I think I audibly gasped "Ooooo.... Camilla!"

I consider myself a Muppets fan, and I didn't even think of Gonzo until you mentioned him.  I thought about Camilla Parker Bowles - who (I'm pretty sure) is now married to Prince Charles.

Unless the Muppets make a huge comeback, or the kids are big into following the UK's royals, I think Camilla is pretty safe.  Besides, you can't protect against toys/cartoons/movies that will be created after the kid is born, so don't lose too much sleep over it.

  • I'm so glad to read such positive feedback about Camilla, cause I think it's probably my favorite of the list but I was worried about whether others would like it or think it's weird.  Plus we like possible nicknames.  I think I'll look up meanings tonight @Robeano, I know them for a few but haven't checked all.  Also need to think about initals- if we go with Camilla it'll probably be CAT, is that bad?  Doesn't really bother me...

  • I like Camilla and Adriana. I think either of those two seem to be a little less mainstream than the rest.
I also had no idea who Camilla was in reference to the muppets :)

I voted Camilla because I absolutely adore that name - it is so beautiful, isn't strange but it also isn't in the top 20.  I also like Juliana and Adriana, just not quite as much as Camilla.  I don't care for Abigail or Isabelle due to their popularity (although by themselves, I do like the names).  I say this with love, but I think Rhiannon is a little out there.  Good luck choosing!
