~*~Health & Fitness Check-In 10/20~*~

This is a weekly thread posted on Mondays for those of us who have health and fitness goals we would like to keep during our pregnancies. If you are new, please jump right in and join in the weekly discussion!

1) How far along are you?

2) How did you do this past week? If you didn't reach your goals, what will you do to get back on track?

3) Any goals for this week?

GTKY: I am honestly shocked that it is already October 20th! Halloween is right around the corner! Exercising in the winter can prove to be quite challenging for even the most avid exercisers. How do you stay motivated during those colder months?

    2) How did you do this past week? If you didn't reach your goals, what will you do to get back on track? I took an extra day off but got out on Sunday for my first long run in a few weeks due to pain in my leg and I think the time spent cross training/lifting made a huge impact. I was able to run 6 miles with my running friends and even felt good enough to keep going but decided not to push it. Can't wait for this Sunday to test the waters with 8 or more!

    3) Any goals for this week? Lifting Tues/Sat, Running Wed/Thurs/Fri/Sun. Sign up for the Richmond 8k on Nov 16th.

How do you stay motivated during those colder months? I buy myself new cold weather running gear. It really helps me to get excited to test it out. I love clothes and shoes so when I start feeling like I'm losing motivation, I either buy more clothes or new running shoes and I'm back in the game. Decided last night to buy this last night for the colder running weather even if it will look funny over a growing baby bump.

    2) How did you do this past week? If you didn't reach your goals, what will you do to get back on track? My week started off great with swimming and running but I fell on Tuesday and got really paranoid. I waited until I was cleared by my doctor. This weekend I worked all day Saturday shooting a wedding and just didnt have a long run in me. This morning I got up for swim and my week is starting off good!!

    3) Any goals for this week? To not fall again and get all my workouts in

How do you stay motivated during those colder months?  Winter is actually when I'm the most motivated. I live in the south and the summers are brutal. Bring on the cold, I LOVE it!!!!!!! I ran a marathon last year in an ice storm, it was 15 degrees and a sub 0 windchill (freak weather for this area) and I PR'd even though I was unoffically running the race since they cancelled because of the ice.

  • @saiven I've actually told my husband a few times these past few weeks that I should take up dog walking for our neighbors because every night after dinner I ask our daughter if she wants to take a walk around the block with me and she says no so I end up either not going or going alone.

My only advice for you with the working out is maybe explain to your husband why it is important to you so that, even if he still hates working out, he understands why you want to do it so that he can provide you with the support you need to stay motivated. Good luck!

@saiven I have been running with my dog for years (until she tripped me on Tuesday, now I have to leave her at home unless it's walking). The best thing that I can recommend is a Gentle Leader like this one Gentle Leader . It will help you keep your dog at your side if he/she has the same problems as my dog. It works like magic on both our 50lb dog and our 110lb dog. Best $$ I ever spent.

Good luck with starting your fitness journey. For me, the key is to get out and do something no matter what. Make it part of your schedule, something you HAVE to do like going to work or eating. You can't depend on others to encourage you or make you do it, it's something you have to force yoruself to do. I promise that if you get out enough, it becomes a habit and dare I say that you even crave it.

Listen to her. She's smart. Exercising has become like breathing, sleeping, and eating. It's just a part of life and I look forward to it.

I didn't do that great last week. I kinda had a meltdown in the middle of the week then I worked 3 back to back 12hr shifts over the weekend which means zilch gets done.
    3) Any goals for this week?
Goal is to just continue doing my yoga as much as possible. I'm shooting for everyday because it's so easy and only takes 15 minutes. Also trying to go to prenatal class at least once a week.  One of these days I'm going back to crossfit....

I'm the biggest pansy ever for cold weather. I HATE IT.  But we're usually still pretty good about going to the gym because we're at least inside.  I will second the dog being a good motivator.  She is super high energy so we HAVE to take her out or she destroys the world.

@ACH831  I've been having that same weird rib pain too!!! Mine alternates from being on the right or the left side just under my boob. It gets all tingly/burny. I think it has to do with the tension in my back because if I sit up straight and stretch out then it usually goes away.
