Trouble TTC

Coming up on a year *mentioning of losses*

Me and the DH have been ttc for a year on the 26th. We lost our first pregnancy four years ago on October 6th due to having an IUD in and not thinking we could be that .01%. I have also lost one other child at the tender age of 15. About six months ago I was told I have PCOS and told that chances of me not only getting pregnant but carrying through were very slim because of this and a few other health issues I have.

As we approach this year mark I have found it very hard to be positive about getting a bfp or even getting af on schedule. I am amazed at the women who have been trying for years and wonder how they do it.  also can't help but getting really emotional over my two angels as I try to give them a sibling. I'm kinda at a loss now. Not sure what I should do that I haven't already tried and y ob-gyn is wanting to wait until May to start Clomid.

Re: Coming up on a year *mentioning of losses*

  • I'm sorry for your losses! I am glad you found this board though. This is a great place to find support among women going through similar experiences. I'm going to second PPs suggestion of seeing an RE to get all the proper testing so you can get on a treatment protocol that will work best for you. Clomid doesn't work for everybody and if you have multiple things going on (stuff in addition to suspected PCOS), and RE is going to be your best bet for success.

Also, was it your ob/gyn who diagnosed you with PCOS? Did he/she do testing to confirm?

  • I agree with the PP.  Go to a RE.. I heard this from someone here and love it and use it often.. OBs are great at keeping you pregnant and REs are great at getting your pregnant.  I am sorry for your losses.  But understand the frustration of waiting and wanting to get things figured out.  This group of ladies are great and supportive. I would suggest you read the first post that includes some suggestions, "rules" like the loss warnings and things..

  • Thank you ladies.

Yes it was my OB that diagnosed me and tested. And to be honest I've never heard of an RE til this thread. I have had very little help or guidance along this journey since both my family and the DH's have no problems conceiving (and I mean it. My two sister's and our parents just seem to pop them out) And it seems all the research in the world doesn't tell you everything.

I talk with my heath advocate Next week so I'll ask her about REs and try t locate one my insurance takes. Thanks for the advice
  • Hi. Sorry for your losses. I'm also in your position of coming up on one year trying with no success. I feel for your frustrations. Unlike you I am trying to avoid clomid from my OB who offers it everytime I go. Mostly for the reasons others already mentioned. This area is great for learning from others and really helps to not feel like you're the only one struggling. Good luck in the future!
  • Welcome. I am so sorry for your losses. No wonder this TTC journey is feeling even more overwhelming!

There is absolutely no medical reason for an OB to recommend another 6 month wait before started treatment for PCOS. That should be a good clue that you don't need to trust your reproductive health to him/her.

I'm so glad you're planning to look for an RE referral. That way, you will get a full panel of testing (blood work, HSG to show that your tubes are clear, sperm analysis for your husband) and can be confident that treatment addresses all possible issues and has the best chance of success! :)

  • I am so sorry for your losses. Glad that you found us, but hope you don't have to stay too long.

The ladies have given you great advice about seeing an RE. Once you start moving forward and eventually come up with a plan, you may feel more positive. One of the things that I cling to through this whole IF bullshit is that most people who want to have kids become parents one way or the other. It will work, it just may not be as quickly or as easily as you would like. Good luck!
