Dreaming of maternity leave

What are you all looking forward to doing while in maternity leave. Other than snuggling a squish??

With DS I watched Kelly and Michael regularly. I'm excited to watch it again :)

Re: Dreaming of maternity leave

  • Loading the player...
  • Not having to set an alarm, not having to leave the house if it is too cold, spending more time with my daughter, Netflix, maybe reading a book!  I can't wait!
  • Llambrose. Your lo will be your alarm!!

But. You can always go back to sleep. I remember being up at 6 but then going back to sleep until 9-10
    Ish. that was nice
  • No work, lunch and play dates with my stay at home mom friends! Maternity leave is so awesome! It goes by way too fast!!

  • Not working, going on walks, watching Netflix... and not being pregnant haha! Also taking 12 weeks this time instead of 6, that went by way too fast!

  • Mostly I'm looking forward to not working and doing what I want, when I want with a squishy new baby in tow. I haven't had this long of leave from working since becoming an adult and entering the workforce.

Feeling a little conflicted about how to spend my days. On one hand, I don't want to waste the time off lazing about not being productive. On the other, I want to soak in every ounce of newborn snuggles I can. I know, like so much of this process, you can't predict what will happen when you're in it. Guess I'm just trying to stay open and accepting of all possibilities and be gentle with myself, even as we're adjusting to our new normal.
  • I'm dreaming of it too!! I just covered a 14 week maternity leave and it was near torturous. Having 5 extra facilities 160 miles away was not fun!! But I am so thankful that my wonderful co-worker got some time off with her babe... not enough, but I was so glad when she came back.

On that note- some PPs have already said what I am looking forward to- not working and taking walks with this new bundle. I imagine on weekdays we will take my 11 yo to school and then head to the park (we live in the desert, so jan/feb is perfect for walking outdoors). This is my main plan for mat leave... :)

  • Sweatpants or pjs, Netflix, lots of baking, casseroles, more time with family, not teaching...
My brain is already starting to go into mat leave mode, which is not good when I still have a minimum of 8 weeks left!
  • With my first I watched the 2 episodes of Supernatural that are on tnt everyday...or is it tbs? And Big Cat diaries. I also watched movies in the middle of the night while I was cluster feeding her all night. Better start getting some good stuff on the DVR!
  • I'm looking fwd to watching the food network and not having to deal with traffic everyday. I also plan on aggressively looking for a better job while on leave. But the biggest perk is not having to dress up everyday.

  • I definitely want to read a lot and just enjoy being away from the work drama. I kind of don't know what to expect-will I really have so much time to meet friends for lunch and be out and about? It will be the dead of winter so I guess it will be nice to stay in on the really cold days!!
  • Looking forward to snuggle buggin my sweet lo and finishing my second bachelor's degree!
  • Wearing comfy clothes all day, being able to drink coffee on my couch while watching The Today Show, hanging out with my other babies (whom I adore so much), being able to take and pick up my preschooler from school, play groups with my MOMs club (oh and the 6 weeks of meals from them is a perk too).

On a side note, my husband just informed me today that he's going to talk to his doctor about scheduling back surgery in January so that when he's on bed rest I'll be home to help. Yikes!!

  • I'm excited to meet my little baby boy and be home on maternity leave. Ugh, I'm done with my typical 45-minute which is now taking 60-90 minutes in the morning. I'm done with my coworkers who are overly needy and dramatic. Plus I'm due for a raise at work and it's a little annoying that I had to take a pay cut when I was hired 2 years ago. I'm happy that I have a job but it will be nice to go on maternity leave! My work has crappy maternity benefits (no paid leave) but I can use my accrued sick and vacation time. The good news is that I found out today that I can take up to 6 months off unpaid leave and my job will be protected. :) Though I'm thinking that I will probably only stay home for 8 weeks or so.

  • Definitely the not working part and being a SAHM for 12 months :) I've been in a rut with my job so this break is going to be fantastic for so many reasons. Also all the Friends seasons are coming on Netflix January 1st!! Hello binge watching haha

  • I hadn't even thought that far ahead.  Ahh is that really only like 3 months away?  Haha.  I absolutely despise my job and don't plan on coming back so I'm really going to enjoy just not working.  I'll probably spend a little bit too much time on my XBOX haha, maybe netflix too.

  • This will be my first vacation in 2 years and the longest time out of work since I started working at 16. So ready for no alarm clock, Netflix, not having to be somewhere at a certain time and of course spending time with my baby boy. I'm counting down the weeks for sure!!!
  • BTW, I am super jealous of all of you Canadians that get a long maternity leave!  I like my job but I certainly would not mind a super long break to stay home with my little ones. :)
  • I'm looking forward to getting completely caught up with photo editing and creating some new ads that I never seem to have time to work on. I'm also looking forward to having family visit as they've only been to our house once in the last 5 years of living here.

  • I'm most looking forward to not being pregnant anymore! Being able to exercise every day, take long walks with the little one and just enjoy our time together.  My son was born in March which was PERFECT, I'm a little nervous about having major cabin fever when this one comes 12/31.  I'm not looking forward to DH hounding me about going back to work since I have crappy maternity benefits and no paid leave.  We're currently arguing over whether I'm going to take 3 months which he wants, or 5, which I want.  I took 5 with my son and it was PERFECT.  I was more than ready to go back to work by the time it was up.

  • @lezlers - my job allows me to take up to 5 months. The only part that will be paid will be what I have in sick and vacation time (about 10 weeks for me).  I want to stay out all 5 months and DH wants me to go back after 3.  So same position as you. However, we just realized how expensive COBRA will be after those first 12 weeks, so we agreed I'll go back soon after the 12 weeks. It doesn't make sense for us to pay to be out longer. It's SUPER expensive.

@luckylady18 Do you work for the government?  Because we're in the EXACT same position!  We paid almost 700 a month out of pocket for COBRA after 12 weeks.  We're going to put little one on my DH's plan, however, so it won't be out of control like it was with our son.  My premium jumped from roughly $40 a month for just me, to over $400 for him and myself.  It was insane.

  • No I work for a non-profit. My COBRA for me, DH and the baby will be more than 2,000 per month! I essentially have to return by April 15th to avoid paying COBRA for April. So that's what I'll be doing!

  • That's insane.  If we can get baby girl on my DH's plan with him and our son, I'll only have to pay $430 for me to stay on Cobra for the additional month (writings on the wall that I'll go back at 4 months as a compromise.)  Still outrageous, tho.  Yay, America?

  • Writing out my previous post made me realize that we haven't checked in to the price of DH's insurance in years. I know mine is cheaper, but as far as COBRA goes, it may make sense for us to all move over to his plan when the baby comes. Also, I plan on looking for a new job while on maternity leave so if I do find something new, it may make sense to be on his plan during the 90 day waiting period of a new job.

DH is looking into costs now. At least we're exploring our options.

    Yay America is right.
  • Not working, meeting my boys, running, hiking and yoga. I am not sure if I will like it or whether or not I will go stir crazy though. Guess we will see.
  • Not working, no traffic, and afternoon walks with the little squishy! Sooo looking forward to cool, breezy days on the trails.
