Distracted?

Anyone else have a distracted LO while nursing? This on and off for 15 minutes is crazy. I was reading a nursing necklace may be helpful, but not really sure. DS is so curious and looks around and smiles and looks at me. It's adorable but not in public and flashing everyone since he screams if I use a cover. Any ideas to help Mr. Distracted?

Re: Distracted?

  • It's always happened to us around 4 months. With DS1, it was the TV. I'd have to turn it off or set the volume really low or he'd been craning his neck to see it. With DS2, it was the older brother as distraction and I know it's coming soon with DD, too. Sometimes moving to a darker/quieter room will help baby stay focused.

  • DD has been doing this for about a week.  It's because they've hit a developmental milestone, which means they start to take notice of the world around them and interact with it a lot more.  I find DD following people around with her eyes trying to get them to look at her.  If they do, she cracks a huge smile.

Luckily, though, DD doesn't mind the nursing cover, but it's annoying, nonetheless.

  • My LO loves to look at the art on the wall behind me when I feed him in our living room.  He stops eating and smiles the biggest smile at it and coos appreciatively.  As annoying as it is to try to get him to focus back on the task at hand (eating!), it's adorable and cracks me up.  My little baby art critic.

  • Thanks for starting this thread!! DS has started doing this the past few days (constant on and off) and I was worried something was wrong with my supply or quality! I'd planned to bring it up at our 4 month appt. Glad to know it's normal.

  • I found sometimes, instead of forcing the feed, I have to delay it a while so he's a bit hungrier and less prone to distraction. I just find that sometimes I don't have the time or patience to have him constantly looking around, extending the fed. Thankfully it's just a (short) phase
