  Ariel is nms, but I have a friend who named her daughter Ariel and she is a darling little girl
  
  It depends on what you and your husband want to name your baby, not what your families want to name her.

  This is the exact reason I don't tell anyone any names! That way when the baby is named (and I would go with what you and your DH like and disregard their opinions) it's too late and they have to live with it. I think people just really like to "help" name other peoples kids because then they have "bragging rights" and you know behind your back they would be like "I stopped her from naming the baby ____ and convinced her that ______is a better name!"
  
  I meant to add that I also prefer the Athena spelling versus Athina

  Oliva is more my style, but not my baby to name.
  
  Name Your baby the name you and your dh love, and forget everyone else's input.

  I love the name Ariel! I might use it if we have a girl if I can convince my DH. If I do choose it though, I'll wait until after she's born to announce the name. I don't think any of my friends or family will like it, and I don't want anyone to try to talk me out of it. If you aren't sure maybe keep looking at girl names that start with an A, since both of your favorites start with an A and see if maybe there's one both you and your DH love. Seriously though who cares if your family doesn't love the name. They don't have a choice in the matter and I'm sure they'll grow to love the name eventually.
