Re: Babywearing Addicts

  • We have the Ktan and the Ergo. I actually really liked both! Although the Ergo is so quick on and off that it's my favorite. The Ergo is also usable by DH whereas the KTan was not. They are both quite comfortable but again the Ergo wins in that department.
DS seems to like the KTan better but we just introduced the Ergo so maybe that will change.

I loved my moby when he was a tiny newborn.  We had a ton of picnics this summer and it was an easy way to keep everyone's grubby paws off him.  I will say that I have the black moby and it's faded and impossible to keep clean looking with animal fur in the house.  So that kind of put me off it.

Just got the Ergo 360 about a month ago and I'm loving it.  The infant insert is recommended up to 12 pounds, but I wasn't going to spend even more money on that, so we've been using a folded hand towel or receiving blanket under his butt to have him sit just a little higher in the carrier.  Even now at almost 13 pounds, he still seems more comfortable with the booster blanket.

eta - Wanted to add a note about the ergo - I have T-Rex arms and have trouble sometimes with the buckle across the back.  But with practice and it's gotten easier.

@anightattheopera‌ I'm so happy you made this thread. I was just wondering who all baby wears.

We have a mei tai, maya ring sling, and a ssc moby go. I love all for different reasons. DS really likes the ring sling so he can look around and it's super easy to use. I love the ssc and so does DH.

I'm dying to get a tula wrap conversion and missed the sale this past weekend :( but I really want gears or compass. It's so much easier to wear him instead of fighting the car seat or lugging him around.

Edit: @aarcher21jul‌ we've nursed in the ring sling in cradle position. I think as DS is beginning to have more head control I'll try it in the others but since he was wobbly that is all we have tried.

I want to try my hand at a woven wrap and at a ring sling but IDK if I want to invest more money. (okay, Idk if my husband is going to be happy about me investing more money.)

Are you a part of any b/s/t groups on fb? The "baby wearing on a budget" is a good group because the carriers are all $100 or less. Many are new too. "The swap" is for carriers over $100. Might be worth looking into. Also most areas have a baby wearing group or LLL that lends carriers to try, such as $30 for a yearly membership to try a new carrier each month.
  • I have ~5 yds of pretty fabric that I use to front carry DD.  It's worked so well that I haven't bothered trying anything else.

We do have an ergo, but I find it bulky and cumbersome for me (I'm on the short side).
  • I have a moby she hated as a tiny newborn but I want to revisit soon, an ergo we love and a little frog marine topaz size 6 that I am obsessed with. I've mastered the FWCC but I want to learn more!

I have a Boba wrap, a Sakura Bloom ring sling and a Boba SSC. So far my favorite is the ring sling. It's so easy to use, and easy to put on by myself.

  • I have a Moby, Lille Baby Complete and Ergo.  The Moby was good for NB stage, but now I'm getting ready to sell it at a consignment sale.  The Ergo is good, but I really love the Lille Baby.  It's a lot like the Ergo, except you have the option of facing out ( I guess the Ergo 360 does this).  If my DCP didn't have my Ergo, I would probably consign it, too.  The other nice thing about the Lille Baby is you don't need an infant insert for when they're little.  There's a front flap that folds up to offer head support.  I hated the infant insert with DS.  It just seemed too bulky and hot.

  • I have an ergo. I've only used it a handful of time so far, because it gets a bit warm and this FL heat has been awful. It's been cooler in the mornings though and I can't wait to use it more. It's very comfortable, and my husband likes it as well.

I'm short and I feel like a lot of the ssc are bulky on me. Maybe try a boba air, I love mine.
  • I have a homemade moby-type wrap that I love ans have had forever. I recently got a Unfantino mei tai and DH surprised me with a boba air this week! Loving the boba air right now! It's so easy to use, confortable and I love that it folds into such a tiny bag and easy to carry in the diaper bag.

  • I have a Boba wrap and an Ergo. I like them both for different reasons. The Boba is really well suited to infants who don't have good head control. It's harder to get on an off, but like a PP said, it's great if baby will only sleep on you. I live in the PNW and the Boba is hard to use in the winter if you're out and about because the fabric drags on the ground and gets wet as you tie it.

The Ergo I like for the easy on/off and convenience. I had the infant insert with my DS and never liked it, so this time around I only used the Boba when she was really small and started really using the Ergo about a month ago. I also like that DH can use the Ergo.

I am kind of wanting a Boba Air.to have something that's really "packable" as the Ergo is not really convenient to haul around.

  • How did I miss this thread?

I have a problem. I have a K'Tan which I'm pretty much done with. I also have a moby from DD #1 that I didn't use this time. Then I have a Sleeping Baby Productions ring sling which I freaking adore. It's my number one go to. I have an Ergo Galaxy that DD seems a bit too small for still (11lbs) and I hate  hate hate the newborn insert. Then I also have a Beco Gemini that I haven't used yet. And then I have a Mei Tai which seems to swallow DD. And...... I have a Little Frog Sunny Agate which I haven't used yet but need to learn.

Why does DD seem so small in the Ergo and Gemini? She seems to hate them right now.

  • I have the Sakura Bloom ring sling, the Maya Wrap ring sling, and the Ergo. I use the Maya ring sling every day. It is super easy to get LO in and out of and he loves the Kangaroo position on walks because he can see everything. The Sakura ring sling is just as practical, but it is double-layered so it is a bit heavy. I can see using this more as LO gets heavier for more support. The Ergo is more for DH and he has never used it. If we were to ever go on a long outing, I could see us using the Ergo.

  • Does anyone have a recomendation for a carrier if baby is huge but mommy is small? My lo is a huge 18lb chunk monster and I am a very weak and thin mommy. We have the Karma carrier from target that he is to big for. I also have the chicco carrier that I can't seem to get tight enough around me which makes him dangle to low and kill my back. Dh likes the chicco and so does lo but I would really like a carrier that I can use. Suggestions?

With that big of a lo, that Chicco must hurt your back.

If you are serious about baby wearing, I think you should go straight to a Tula or Kinderpack. Your lo is bigger so that's where I'd go. If you can't justify that money, you'd be ok with an Ergo and it would last. If you need to go really cheap try the infantino Mei tai

I think a SSC (soft structured carrier) with a hip belt would be good for you.  The ergo, lillebaby, etc.  Get the strain off of your back and support the weight on your hips.  I can go all day with DD in a SSC.  We just did a 7 mile hike this weekend.

Have you tried to frog leg her legs instead of pulling them out the sides so she is sitting Indian style essentially. I used to do that instead of pulling the legs out because she didn't like her legs spread apart. Not great for wiggly babies though
Yes! She won't let me put her legs in. Probably because she's been legs out in the sling since she came home from the hospital. My poor carriers need some use!

  • Any other votes for the Tula?  That one looks pretty nice.  I have a moby and like baby wearing but I feel like I can't get situated quite right in it and always feel awkward

  • Tula is really the "big time" in baby wearing. I don't own one but would if I was sahm. I'm gone all day so my other 5 carriers are good.

  • I talked DH into us getting another carrier around Christmas time. It will either be a Tula canvas or wrap conversion. I am absolutely in love with the wrap conversions. I really want compass or gears, but might settle for the canvas skulls, rockets, or giraffe one (can't remember its name)

Someone on one of the babywearing fb groups posted a picture of the padding difference between ergo, becco, and Tula and Tula definitely had the most padding on the shoulders for comfort.

  • Hooray!! I just bought an Ergo 360 and I'm so excited!! I have a Moby wrap and used it a lot in the first 8 weeks but was looking for something sturdier and easier to put on. I used it today to walk the dogs with and around the house and it was amazing!! I can't wait to use it tomorrow trick or treating with my niece and nephew!! And with coupons, and gift cards I only paid $46!! Can't beat that!!
