My due date was today (10/20) and would have been induced on 10/21. I went to my prenatal appt on 10/14 and was 90% thinned out, 3 cm dilated but baby was still high at a -2 station. After the appt, I was having irregular contractions/cramping at night and in the early mornings. Late Saturday night, I began having some terrible back contractions but they came about 20 mins apart. I figured since I was a first time mom, it would take awhile for them to become 5 mins apart. Nope I was wrong! I got to 5 mins apart but lasting only 30 seconds each by 4 am.

We headed to the hospital and I was already at a 5! Got my epi at 6 cm. I was already at an 8 and 0 station within 2 hours. The doctor came in to break my water and baby's heartrate dropped all the way down to 59. Within a minute, there were a team of 5 nurses and doctors in the room. They got the heart rate back up to the 120-130s range but doctor was concerned he wouldn't make it thru the stress of a vaginal birth. She told me they were going to have to do an emergency c-section ASAP.

Everything happened so fast and they gave me two more epidurals so that I would be numb for the surgery. It made me so sick and I puked twice. It turns out the cord was wrapped around his neck twice. It would have been tragic if we tried to deliver vaginally.

The most important thing is that he is here and perfectly healthy! Poor thing hasn't quite figured how to latch yet but we are working on it! I am determined not to give up.

Congratulations! Don't be too hard on yourself with the latch thing. DS1 didn't learn how to latch until about a week pp, and he was a vaginal birth. They'll figure it out. Best advice I got was don't quit on a bad day, and I'd be lying if I said I didn't have to repeat that to myself a few times at 2 am, but we went on to have a great nursing relationship.

Wow. Congrats. I'm so glad your doctors rushed for the emergency C-Section! My DS1 also named Logan had the cord wrapped 3 times and had to undergo total body cooling for 72 hours. (Doctors were worried about brain damage) I delivered vaginally. Everything ended up fine after a 10 day NICU stay. But those were some of the scariest days.
