Clean Catch Urine Question

So... I went to my FIRST OB appointment on Friday. The nurse just called me to let me know that all my lab work came back normal! Thankk goodness. I say that beacuse with our first I had preeclampsia which turned into eclampsia and then it turned into HELLP. My doctor has been great! Baby looked normal this time. But when the nurse called to tell me that everything with the labs came back normal, she said that they need me to do the clean catch over again. She said that they didn't get a clean catch? With everything that I have had in the past I am kind of freaking out! If I have an infection or something wouldn't they want me to redo the clean catch ASAP.  She told me that if they don't get a clean catch then that they with do a cath.

Has this happened to anyone else?

    Did you wipe yourself properly with the wipes they supply? If you don't, the sample will come back contaminated and inconclusive, hence the re-do.

    When do they want you to do it again?

    @AFwifelife I followed the instruction on the wall. So I hope that I did it correctly?  :)

    @amylee545 I did wipe properly. They told me that when I come back in November that they want me to redo it.

    This might sound gross, but as a nurse I have experienced this before. How is your CM? Some people have overgrowth of CM caused by BV or lactobacilli that can cause it to drip into the cup no matter how good you clean. You wipe it all away but then when you hold the cup there, it drips in. They can tell if somethin that would only be found in the vagina is found in the urine.

    I didn't realize ppl actually follow those instructions on the wall. I never have. Am I the only one that doesn't do this?

    My doc called with same thing yesterday, was not too concerned and will repeat clean catch Urine at my 12 week scan on Saturday.

    I too, followed the "wipe" directions. Oh well.

    You're not alone, @Pintobean39‌! I didn't see the directions until I was finished...but I was about to piss my pants also so I couldn't wait to go anyway. I wouldn't have thought peeing in a cup had to be so difficult.

    probably just contaminated with normal skin flora.  I wouldn't worry, if it showed active infection, they would have you redo it immediately, not wait til november.

    I try to follow the directions in the beginning. At the end of my pregnancy, I would just aim for the cup and pray that I didn't piss on my hand. It's hard to see anything with the big belly in the way.

    I was told only the first time (at my ob) had to be a clean catch. After that at each app just a normal specimen was fine.
