hi everyone,
i'm very new to this page/board but i know i used this website when i was expecting my first a few years ago and found it very helpful (especially since we wanted to keep things private). now though i'm in a very different place. we had an accidental pregnancy that naturally miscarried at about 8 weeks. it was devastating since we didn't even have so much as a hiccup with our first pregnancy. what surprised me so much was how saddened i felt about it even though it was so early on and we were not even prepared to have another. fast forward a few weeks and here we are again with an oops pregnancy. i'm so surprised and honestly freaked out. i am so paranoid that i didn't even take the test till my husband finally begged me to since i wasnt feeling well and wanted me to go to the doctor. well i took the test Saturday and then went the the MD on sunday where i was diagnosed with walking pneumonia. of course i began freaking out b/c i knew they'd want to give me medicine for it. i have been coughing a ton but didn't feel like just trusting the NP at the clinic on her treatment course without taking with my OB. well of course i called them at 8:15 this morning and still haven't heard back from them (its now 4:40pm). anyways i'm just so nervous b/c i don't want to do ANYTHING at all that could possibly harm the baby but i'm not sure if my coughing/hacking is worse for the baby compared to some courses of antibiotics. anyways i'm just rambling but i just am so scared and worried all the time about the new baby and we are choosing to keep this quiet for now among our family/friends thus i have no one to share this worry/concern with.
thanks
Re: Freaking Out
There are no class A antibiotics in pregnancy. How did they diagnose your "walking" pneumonia? I'm guessing they mean atypical? Did you get azithromycin or something like that? The differential diagnosis also includes bronchitis (which doesn't require Abx), viral pneumonia, asthma exacerbation, etc etc.
If your oxygen saturations are normal AND you don't have a fever AND your breathing is OK you probably (maybe) could hold off....but the other question is, did they swab you for the flu? It is not too early for that as well especially since you work with the general public.
Either way you should not make your own management decisions. You should get a second opinion.
