Flats diaper question- how to coordinate

I'm not due until February so while I sit here and stare at my stash I started thinking... how do you coordinate using a flat?  Let's say I want to try an origami fold.  Do I fold on the floor and gently bring it up to the changing table so it doesn't come undone?  Do you get it ready on the table?  Seems hard since it's not a flat surface.  Do I just say screw the table and change my baby on the floor?  I remember with my first 16 years ago that's why I did, but I didn't use cloth back then.  Thanks in advance!

Re: Flats diaper question- how to coordinate

  • I fold my flats and store them folded ready to go on the baby. Unless I am padfolding and stuffing into pockets of course.

also, i totally expected this to be a question about flat shoes and what kinds of outfits to wear them with.  i was surprised when it was a diaper question

I actually thought it was going to be about coordinating your flat diapers with your covers or your baby legs or whatever.  I was a tad disappointed.

This is what I thought too. I was thinking she wanted flats with prints to match the covers or something. And another vote for storing already folded.

This.  Since I've gotten hit with the receiving blanket flannel for diapers love, my mom decided to use up all her old flannel from sewing projects... So I'm ending up with a bunch of flats with prints.
Sad to put a cover over them!

When I did the origami fold, I folded it into a square and stacked the squares.  Then just before changing baby I took a few seconds to finish folding... I never seemed to have trouble doing that with baby on the change table... but he wasn't mobile at that point...  Now I just padfold, and either stuff or lay on a cover, so I do that before and stack them already padfolded.

  • I did prefolded with my first, but my mom used flats on us and she stored them already folded also.
  • I stored our flats in a diaper stacker, pad folded. At diaper changing time I would fold the diaper using the changing table, the crib, chair, floor, whatever, put the diaper on the changing table, and then put baby on the changing table.
  • I airplane fold them and have them stacked.

I find it easier to lay down the diaper before the baby rather than trying to get the diaper under the baby without it coming undone.

  • I agree with the folding as part of washing and would like to add a vote for floor changes, I never used a table with my dd. It always felt safer to be where she couldn't fall off.
