Toronto Babies

Keeping baby in the room...

Hi All,

I would like to keep my baby in the hospital room with me from birth until I'm released from the hospital (unless there are complications).
I'm a low risk pregnancy, and my doctor anticipates everything will go fine.

Have anyone here given birth at Toronto East General?
I would like to know if they allow the baby to stay with the mother the whole time.

This is my first, and I plan on asking my OB and/or the hospital when I register, but I thought I'd ask here first since.
Thanks in advance.

  • I have not given birth at that hospital, but both of the hospitals I have given birth at have not only let you keep the baby with you, but encouraged it as standard practice. I think a lot of hospitals in Toronto are doing it that way now. You could probably find out by looking at the website as well. GL!

  • I birthed at East General last year (June 2013)  I loved this hospital and had such a great experience.  They do rooming in- which means the baby is with you from birth until discharge, unless there are obvious complications that need to be addressed.

  • I gave birth in a hospital back in June, I wasn't high-risk but I was induced because she had stopped growing and my water was leaking. She was born with no complications and stayed in the room with me the whole time we were in the hospital :) I think most hospitals in Canada don't have nurseries anymore, just NICUs so if you're baby has no complications then they should allow him or her to stay with you for the duration of your stay.
