  • 1. Successes/Celebrations this week?
I've had two new people I supervise start this week and they're both so awesome. These positions were open for a LONG time (a year plus), so it's going to be so huge for me when I can take a step back from trying to fill in those jobs, and I feel really confident in their abilities for me to do just that.
And at home, Boo is doing SO SO great in the evenings. While I'm running around making dinner, throwing in laundry, ect, she's loving playing with pot lids or plastic spoons or my scarves... just her being so easy going is a huge help.

    2. Challenges this week?
Teeth, ugh. LO is drooling everywhere and not napping all that great (thankfully her night sleep has still been decent), and whenever she doesn't nap well for my mom I feel SO guilty.
My commute is also KILLING ME right now. It took more than an hour to get home in really strange weather last night, and all I was thinking the whole time was "so this means we'll have no play time tonight." I blew off a ton of stuff that needed to get done around the house to spend some with LO, but that means my lunch didn't get packed for today so now I'm spending $ on that... it's a constant calculus of trading off time vs. money vs. sanity right now.

    3. Did you squeeze in any family/me time?
Family time has been hard to come by this week, we've been so busy. BUT MH is usually home by bathtime so that's a nice time to play with Boo (she LOOOOVES the bath) and just get in some laughs together. Me time is nonexistent, but that's only for a couple more weeks until I get through a major work project.

    4. Weekend plans?
Tonight after bedtime I'm drinking wine and passing out. ;-) Tomorrow is Halloween pics at the mall and then maybe going to get a pumpkin? Sunday I have church and then a fundraising event for the agency who's board I serve on, MH will likely take Boo to hang out with his mom while I do that before we meet up at my parents where Boo and I will spend the night so I can drive to the end of the earth Monday morning to give a training. Whew.

    5. Any tips to share? General rants/vents? Anything else you want to share?
I've felt like I'm on a roller coaster this week... there have been days when I seriously felt like Super Mom, and days when I wanted to call MH and tell him I was going to apply for a half time job that's open here because I feel like I can't do this anymore. Sigh.

  • @psk - I feel the same way about constantly just feeding/preping food for LO.  I just spent the last two nights making food for LO.  But I think I have enough veggies for the next three weeks and cereal for the next week and a half.

I keep asking my SO if he wants to learn how to make LO's food.  But he doesn't seem as interested as I am.

Same here.  I had an extra couple hours yesterday after getting back from a work trip early, and I spent it grocery shopping and making butternut squash and pears :)

  • Thanks for doing this check-in!

    1. Successes/Celebrations this week?
Not really.  We got through the sedated echo so that was good.  Then this afternoon we have DS's EKG and appt. with his cardiologist.  Between those and a work trip yesterday that I had to get up at 4:30 am for, it's been a lot of running around.
    2. Challenges this week?
    See above.  Medical stuff :)
    3. Did you squeeze in any family/me time?
I feel like for a working mom with a pretty demanding job and travel, I get a good amount of quality time with my kids.  We have about an hour to an hour and a half in the morning and I usually don't have to rush to get to work at a certain time, so we'll take our time from 6:30 or 7 until 8:30 am and get to fit in reading books and playing a little bit since I do most of my getting ready at night.  Then I get home by 5:30 and have 2 hours wtih them to play, go on a long walk, eat and do baths.  DH and I need some alone time sometime soon - I just emailed our babysitter to see whether she's around this weekend or next.  We usually try to get out for a couple hours at least every other weekend.
    4. Weekend plans?
Both kids have swim lessons tomorrow morning, then I'm taking DD to a birthday party at a local park.  That's pretty much it :)  Maybe we'll try to do something fun as a family on Sunday.
    5. Any tips to share? General rants/vents? Anything else you want to share?
Nothing I can think of right now!

    1. Successes/Celebrations this week?
I was asked to take the lead on two big projects. I am excited about the challenge/added responsibility but also nervous at the same time. Also, I finally cleaned up my cubicle. It was a total disaster.
    2. Challenges this week?
Normal, not enough time in the day crap. Trying not to stress about the mountain of laundry and dirty bathrooms in the house.
    3. Did you squeeze in any family/me time?
No me time. I am seeing a trend here. I will make sure to find some me time so I can report back next Friday!! We had some extra family time on Monday because I took the day off and DS1's school was closed.
    4. Weekend plans?
DH is working all weekend. My dear friend just had her gallbladder out so we are going to visit with her and then I will take our kids to a farm to pick pumpkins. I can handle 4 kids, right?

    5. Any tips to share? General rants/vents? Anything else you want to share?
karich My H does not contribute around the house as much as I *think* he should. I know he works more hours and has a longer commute than me but I am starting to feel myself burn out.

  • @karich - I fully anticipate sleeping in the glider or on the floor in his room when I finally allow him to be moved out of our room...

  • 1. Successes/Celebrations this week?
I was able to return to work just 1 week after DS2 skull surgery. I was able to do this b/c my in-laws are amazing and they are staying with us for 2 weeks so he doesn't have to go to the sitters yet.
    2. Challenges this week?
Getting caught up after being gone for a week... a lot papers to grade and things to organize.
    3. Did you squeeze in any family/me time?
Haven't had me time in like forever, but oh well. DH and I had a lot of time together at the hospital, but since we returned home I have seen him about an hour a day. But I am getting good time with my boys, nothing special. Just enjoying them at home.
    4. Weekend plans?
Like I said earlier, my in-laws are here, so I hope they take DS1 somewhere fun. Nothing special planned

    Have a nice weekend

  • 1. Successes/Celebrations this week? babyG got his last shot, at least until December :-)  and I think I see some white in his lower gum which makes me think toofs might be coming!  Oh, and yesterday was our 4th anniversary: roses, dinner, cards and some sexy time with H

    2. Challenges this week?  Sunday was too busy - 6 hrs in the car for a baptism & reception and then dinner with the ILs (who were also at the baptism/reception and MIL commandeered babyG for too long.  The day was so full that babyG only got 3 meals in (as opposed to 4 bottles and two solids, he had two solids and 3 bottles).  Then I worked 14 hrs (16 with commute) on Monday, and we finally did our taxes for 2013 on Wednesday evening.

    3. Did you squeeze in any family/me time?  See above about sexy time. See above about time at ILs.

    4. Weekend plans?  H is going to a car meet on Sunday, so I'll have babyG and dsd alone.  I think we're going to try to get to see my sister and her girls, but that might have to be Saturday instead.  At some point I'd like to take babyG to a pumpkin patch, so maybe dsd and I will do that on Sunday...

    5. Any tips to share? General rants/vents? Anything else you want to share?  No tips, no rants/vents.  Nothing more to add this week!

  • Ladies, we all need some ME time!! I think we should all set a goal for a little ME time next week. Even if you take a bubble bath for 15 minutes. Do SOMETHING just for YOU!

ramfan05 Can we make this a follow up question for next week?

Absolutely, @TessyMessy! I'm on it ;) (and I totally agree with you, although I'm not so good at it myself!)

  • So sorry I didn't get to check back in after posting this past Friday. This week will be far less crazy and I will be able to spend more time checking in :)

So sorry to all of the ladies struggling right now. Remember to try to find some time for yourself, even just 10 or 15 minutes to relax in the bath, pick up a magazine, work on a project you enjoy, or just sit in a quiet room with your eyes closed, haha :)

Hope you are all having a good week so far!
