Hi ladies, I know it's been a rough week or two around here w a lot of prayer requests, but if you could spare a moment and send out some positive vibes my way it would be greatly appreciated.
I'm 25 weeks along today with my 4th pregnancy. I suffered w some pretty gnarly looking varicose veins and bad swelling during the end of my last pregnancy, and found that the veins returned much quicker this time. Over the weekend my ankle blew up like a balloon and the veins are so bad they are starting to develop sores. I also have it pretty bad on my right leg too, even though last time that one wasn't really a problem. Naturally I showed my OB at my already scheduled appointment this morning ... She audibly gasped when I pulled up my pant let and said, 'I'm really surprised you're so calm knowing it looks like this.' Ummmm, ok! She's sending me to a vascular specialist to consult in an hour & to have a Doppler done of my lower extremities.
I'm really nervous, but trying not to freak out too much since I did have a leg ultrasound done w my last pregnancy and they didn't find clots. But that was 35 or so weeks along, not 2nd trimester like I am now. Plus, it's much worse looking this time. Icing on the cake is that my husband left on a business trip last night so I'm by my lonesome (family all live out of state) and will be bringing my 1 year old and 5 year old to the appointment and rushing home to get my 6 year old off the bus along w the other girl I watch in the mornings and afternoons.
Just feeling a little scared and wanted to share. Anyone have experience w this? Thanks in advance, F15!

After a very long afternoon I had an ultrasound/Doppler done of both legs and met w a vascular surgeon (and a few other medical professionals), and the general consensus is that things are ok for now. I have developed a series of blood clots in my right leg (boo!), but the good news is that they appear to be mostly in the superficial vascular system, which doesn't put me at risk for deep vein thrombosis or some of the other more serious clotting issues. However, I've been strictly warned that I have to stay off my feet whenever I can, I need to wear compression stockings (which I will have to be fitted for and order tomorrow morning at a medical supply store) pretty much all the time (sexy), elevate my legs every few hours, and use warm compresses on the areas most affected to help w the pain and numbness.
Overall, I am very relieved, and this little 'scare' just highlights the fact that I need to pay attention to being pregnant and need to be serious about taking it easy. I think I ran through a dozen scenarios today involving bedrest and heparin injections (thanks dr google) in my mind and just kept thinking; I only have myself to blame bc I always always push things off & don't take care of me. I'm in denial of symptoms, delay dr's appointments, and ignore sound medical advice bc I'm always 'too busy' with the kids and the house and volunteering and the dog or my husband or hosting a bridal shower or whatever. @krendel1990 hit the nail on the head that I hate reaching out to people, and today taught me that sometimes you just have ask for help. When it became clear I wasn't making it back in time for the bus I did speak w my neighbor who covered for me and watched my daughter until I could get home and the mom of the girl who I babysit was fine making sure to be home in time for the bus. They are also neighbors. So help requested and received, and the sky did not come tumbling down!
So anyways, don't be me, ladies of F15 ... Take care of yourselves and your needs and try to relax from time to time! Thanks again
