hi im 17 weeks pregnant and I was just released from the hospital after 3 days of pain and continued hyperemesis. I know morphine can decrease your bowel motility, but this is day 6 of no bowel movement. What have others tried and found helpful? I'm currently on diclegis, zophran, phenergen, prenatal, and colace.

  • In a book I have it claims the water you boil rice in (Rice Water) will relive constipation. I personally have not had to try this yet but I guess it would to hurt to try.

  • I would sip on coconut juice or pineapple juice during the day. They're natural laxatives.

  • I can't not find any constipation threads in this group using the search engine. My dr suggested colace which is what I've been using with no luck. I'm an RN but never been in the OB and never been a mother. Look forward to your suggestions.
  • Look up the thread I started, there were lots of good suggestions. It was under extreme constipation. I would paste it but not sure how from mobile. Hot beverages like decaf tea has been helping me a lot and milk of magnesium. It was prob took over a week after I had my appendix.
  • Thank you. I will! I'm finding I can't see many nor find something's on the mobile version. I will find it though.
  • Yeah, there's a lot of good threads on this topic recently.

I'm on meds too and I just try to eat a lot of fiber and try to do some activity after my raisin bran, OJ, and apple to get things moving down there. Good luck!

  • I take milk of magnesia, it is the only thing that works for me.

  • Well if you want quick relief ( within the hour), I would suggest a suppository.

I had the same problem after my c-sections and I tried everything I could to get things moving.  The only thing that helped ( outside of straining and a lot of pain) was a suppository.
  • Glycerine suppositories
