gift ideas for new mom

Hi girls,
This question is for everyone, but those of you who've had a baby already might have some really good ideas.  My sister is having a baby any day now and I'm flying out to see her next week.  I want to get her a little present that's really just for her; not necessarily something for the baby, but practical in that she has a brand new baby so she's probably not leaving the house for a facial or putting on a super cute top or pair of heels in the next few weeks :-).    She's seriously the most selfless person I know, so I just want to do something extra nice for her.    Is there anything you second time moms remember getting right after your baby was born  (or wishing you had) that was really nice, just for you?  Thanks for any ideas...

Re: gift ideas for new mom

  • Ahhh love it.  Good idea.   Her hubby worlds third shift and gets home around 9am, so I know that he sometimes brings home starbucks as a treat for them..but even better if it gives her a reason to get out of the house for a bit!

  • I had no idea something such as lactation cookies existed, but that's a great idea as well-  here's a recipe I just googled for anyone else who hadn't heard of it.

  • One of my friends gave me a gift card for a local resturant that delivers their food. It was great to just order dinner and have it delivered.

  • These are all great ideas, thanks so much everyone. I've been thinking about this for a couple days and just couldn't seem to come up with anything good.
  • Yes to meal/food delivery. There are lots of places that will deliver fresh produce to your home. Blue Apron or Plated seem to be very popular although I haven't used either.

  • Food or gift cards for food.

If you're particularly generous, gift card for a cleaning service.
  • Last week I brought my friend a gift card to a restaurant that delivers to her house and I made her lactation cookies. I was surprised at how good the cookies turned out.

  • My favorite thing someone did for me when I first had my little one, was my mom and dad went grocery shopping for me, and dd measured big my whole pregnancy and was a peanut when she came out so she bought me newborn clothes bc I bought none!
  • Really nice mascara was one of my favorite gifts after DD was born. Bath stuff from Lush is great too, so when you get that ten minute shower escape it feels a little luxurious.

  • You could do a gift basket.
I received a new super soft heating blanket that made me so comfy and we still snuggle under it.
Some nice bath stuff with candles so she can have a relaxing moment.
A bottle of wine if she's a wine drinker!
  • A gift certificate to get the house cleaned (some people aren't down for that but if she would be fine with it never hurts to have someone else clean your bathroom, do the floors, etc when tied up with a newborn).

  • Comfortable and breathable jammies, a soothing candle and some nice bubble bath. Anything that may help her relax and be comfortable would be a good choice. Also stocking her fridge and freezer with some yummy and easy meals would be really nice.
