Re: Breastfeeding check in
How old is LO ? How long between feedings? What is the longest LO sleeps at night? 5months, eats every 2 hours during the day. If I'm lucky I get a 3hour stretch at night but usually it's 1-2hours.
EBF, EP, supplementing, started solids? EBF, waiting til 6months for solids
Raves: almost made it to the first goal of 6months, yay!
Rant: I'm starting to get frustrated being the only source of nutrition for LO. It's wearing me out. Especially when she's up every hour at night and will only go back to sleep with comfort nursing. I wish DH could do more so I could get some sleep once in a while.
How old is LO ? How long between feedings? What is the longest LO sleeps at night? DD turned 5 months yesterday. She eats every 3 hours(ish) during the day. She usually sleeps 9-10 on average at night before waking around 5am to eat.
EBF, EP, supplementing, started solids? EBF. We haven't really started solids yet, but I've let her have tastes of a few things and play with food. She puts it into her mouth, but really hasn't ate any solids yet. She's played with pasta, celery, green pepper, banana, sweet potato, and avocado.
Raves and rants? I'm one month short of my second goal of BFing for 6 months. I'm really excited that I've stuck with it and made it this far.
Anything else you want to share? I can't wait to drop a pump session at work. Finding the time to pump 3x at work sucks. I had an all-day meeting at the county building where I work and couldn't pump in my office. They have "new mother rooms". I used it and it was so nice! Rocking chair and table, sink and fridge to keep your pump parts in, and no one bothering you. I was very happy with the accommodations they make for new moms.
Going well, she's just a little distracted when DH and I talk while she eats. She stops and turns her head and just stares. It's cute though :-)

DD turns 5 months today! She's going about 2-2.5 hours during the day and gives me a 5-7 hour stretch at night.
EBF, EP, supplementing, started solids?
EBF. We've given her a few things to num on but she hasn't really eaten any of it. Leaning towards starting at 6 months.
Raves and rants?
Excited that we've made to almost six months. Makes the year mark look more attainable.
Anything else you want to share?
LO is becoming more mobile and keeps sliding off the couch, but lands pretty well on her feet. We let her do it, while we are right there of course. It's fun to watch and she's learning as she does it. At least that's what I'm telling myself ;-)
How old is LO ? How long between feedings? What is the longest LO sleeps at night? He's a week shy of 5 months. We're getting close to 5 hours again, so I'm hoping that the 4MW is behind us.
EBF, EP, supplementing, started solids? EBF and pumped bottles. I'm hoping to wait until 6 months to try solids, but he has started showing an interest in my food.
Raves and rants? Rave: I feel like we're starting to get into a better feeding/nap routine. We put him back down for another nap within 2 hours of waking and we've been nursing to sleep, so we've been working on the timing of that and it seems to be working well.
Rant: Since LO no longer naps in the swing, I'm the only one that can get him to sleep.
Anything else you want to share? This is long but I appreciate your thoughts! Related to the above, we're trying to get to the point that the nanny or DH can feed LO to sleep. He normally is satisfied with 4 or 5 ounces from the nanny at a typical feeding. The first time we tried to have her feed him to sleep, I was shocked because he first fed at the breast, then sucked down 4 ounces from her and was still acting hungry, so I fed him again and he went to sleep pretty quickly. Last night he took 6 ounces from my husband and wasn't satisfied until I fed him a bit. It made me wonder how much he was really taking from me at a feeding so I went to the local store that lets you weigh before & after a feeding to determine the volume he's eating. I was surprised that he only took in 3 ounces. So now, I'm concerned that he is overeating with the bottle? I wonder if he'll just keep sucking down whatever they give him and keep asking for more because he knows I'll come to him eventually when the bottles dry out? I don't want him to start a habit of overeating.

She'll be 5 months in just a couple days. During the day she typically eats every 3 hours like clockwork (her schedule, not mine). At night she's doing about 6 or 7 hours for the long stretch.
EBF, EP, supplementing, started solids? BF and supplementing. We just started experimenting with solids this week, after a couple weeks of her sticking her hands into out food. So far so good -- she likes to grab onto the spoon to help bring it to her mouth. She's had rice cereal and a bit of avocado mashed up with BM.
Raves and rants?
Rant: Mastitis is the worst. See above.
Rave: I still love looking at her nursing, looking so peaceful and content. Sweet milky baby smell!!!
Anything else you want to share? I know others have had it much worse than I have with recurring mastitis, abcesses, etc. but I am feeling so uncertain how long I can keep this up. I'm hoping it gets better soon, but if it doesn't? It makes me think about giving up BF, I'm ashamed to say.
@spinsoffresonance, what you describe is the concern I have. I believe I even read as much in Dr. Sear's book... that with a bottle, they can't comfort nurse without taking in volume, which increases the risk of obesity. If you learn any tricks for getting him to sleep without comfort nursing, please let me know!
<sigh> it seems that when trying to solve one problem, we create others. He's already almost 22 pounds! Although his dr isn't concerned with his weight (he started out big and has continued to gain on his curve), I don't want to train/encourage him to overeat and create a lifelong eating problem.

How old is LO ? How long between feedings? What is the longest LO sleeps at night? Was 5 months on the 16th. 3 hours during the day and maybe a 5 hour stretch at night then up every 3. Some nights he will wake every hour or 2 but hasn't happened in a few days so I hope that is behind us.
EBF, EP, supplementing, started solids?
EBF. Pedi (who is DHs aunt) saw him at a family get together and she mentioned at his 4 month checkup that she noticed he was really interested in food and we could start if we wanted to. He didn't have any interest in it until he hit 5 months and suddenly it clicked. He loves to eat. We are introducing new foods every few days to check for allergies but so far loves carrots, peas, sweet potatoes, pears, bananas, and apples.
Raves and rants?
Only bad thing about solids is that it seems to be making him constipated. Went 3 days (normally he goes daily) so 1 oz prune juice did the trick
