STMs : Breech/transverse babies

Good morning ladies,

I'm starting to get really really paranoid. My little girl is in the transverse (side lying) position. I'm 29 weeks and I know she's slowly running out of room in there. I'm freaking out that she's not going to turn head down for delivery and I'm going to end up with a section.

Anyone else experience this?? When did your LO flip or did they never flip??

I don't know how you feel about Wikipedia- but they have a pretty well sourced section about breech presentation. It basically says 95% of babies will turn head down by week 36, so you have some time. This doesn't apply to preterm babies obviously.

If it makes you feel better, both of my previous boys were breech up until I think around 30 weeks or so, this one is still breech at 26 weeks.

  • My DD #1 was breech and turned in the last 3-4 weeks. This one is transverse too so we'll see....

  • You still have plenty of time! My daughter was transverse until around 37 weeks. This baby is also still sitting transverse.

  • Last time my baby didn't flip until after 30 weeks. This time she flipped at 28 weeks, but I feel like it is still early enough that she might move around some more. I'm not going to start really worrying about it until 34 weeks or so.

  • Thanks ladies. I try not to think on it too much but it's just this little nagging thought in the back of my mind all the time.

  • @crazymonkeybear My NP said the same thing briefly about the external version a long time ago. But she didn't say what week they start checking/intervening. I have an appt next Monday and I was planning on asking.

Here's to hoping that I'm just taking after my mother. Everything about this pregnancy has been identical right down to it being a girl & being transverse. She said I flipped around 32 Ish weeks

  • There are chiropractic techniques to encourage/give baby room to turn.

  • DS was transverse until sometime after 30w.  then he kind of slowly rotated around and was head-down by about 36w.  this baby was breech at scans at both 20 and 24w, so she seems to be pretty comfy there.  i think she may have started to move though because i feel a lot more kicks at the top now.

  • @MLC1990‌ I know this sounds weird but how tall are you?

I only ask because I'm 4'10" and my DD was breech. My OB would not attempt turning her. She was never head down but ran out of room by 35 weeks and couldn't turn on her own. I would follow what your OB recommends but only if you're comfortable with it. A c-section isn't bad and if you find out you need one feel free to PM me with any questions or freak outs you're having.

  • @HamptonsMama  I'm 5'4" and have a really long torso.

She was transverse at our very first ultrasound then by 18 weeks at the anatomy scan she had turned head down, but the last scan we had done (elective 3D at 28 weeks) she was back in the transverse position.

My assumption/hope is that she's still very roomy in there and is eventually going to turn back again.

  • I had the same exact fear. The ultrasound I received at 24 weeks, my son was breech - I just had another US a few days ago, I'm now 28 weeks & he is completely flipped and head down. I didn't expect him to turn this early, but I'm relieved. Although, he moves A LOT - so who's to say he won't move back? I wouldn't stress about it until 34-36 weeks - if you OB doesn't seem concerned, don't worry yourself. There is procedures that are safe to try & flip the baby. Good luck! ❤️
  • I was going to say what thompnia said.

My chiropractor has helped women with breech and transverse babies. If little miss isn't cooperating come the last few weeks it couldn't hurt to look into a chiro!
