Trying to Get Pregnant

Hello

I just joined TB a week or so ago. My boyfriend (29) and I (24) are currently preparing for TTCing in January. I recently started temping and taking prenatal vitamins. He is taking multivitamins regularly as well. I've also cut my caffeine intake down in preparation for being pregnant. We live near Atlanta with our two kitties and can't wait to start our family. I have possible ovarian cysts, though I have also suspected endometriosis, and my boyfriend had an undescended teste that wasn't fixed until he was 11, so I'm a bit worried that we could have trouble.
I do have one question for you all, how do you deal with BFNs? I have had baby fever in the past and even though the timing was wrong, I was always devastated by negative tests. I am concerned that there may be a few in our future, and I'd like to be able to take them in stride.

  • Lol, I kind of figured that might be a key. Thank you.

They didn't do any real testing. I went to the ER when I was 18 with terrible pain and they told me I probably had "harmless cysts" but I didn't have insurance at the time, so I couldn't afford to investigate it further. No doctor has suggested endometriosis, I still have that pain routinely, and have looked into it and think ENDO fits my symptoms. I don't know for sure though. Figuring that out before January is on my to-do list.
I had been downing one + energy drink(s) a day, and have cut it down now to one or two cups of coffee or tea. I know I don't have to totally stop, but I needed to cut down.
By having baby fever in the past I mean that I illogically wanted a baby/family when I knew I wasn't financially capable of supporting it or mature enough myself. I was on birth control at the time, but if I missed a pill or anything when I was 18-19 or so, I'd start thinking maybe I was pregnant and would be crushed that I wasn't even though I knew it wouldn't be a good idea to bring a baby into my life at that time.
  • Welcome and best of luck to you.

BFNs aren't fun, but for most of us it is part of the journey.  There's only a 20% chance each cycle of getting pregnant.

The best advice for you is to enjoy this time and don't make sex regimented.  Also, read the newbie blog and get to know your body.

  • If you have a hard time dealing with negative tests, I just personally wouldn't test until I was a week or so late. I know it's easier said than done, but if you're regular you will start your period before you pee on things.

I wouldn't worry about possibly fertility issues until you know for sure. Give yourself a year and if nothing happens, see a specialist.
  • welcome and good luck
