Concerned but not freaking out.

I am 20 weeks pregnant on Wednesday. Last night I had some bleeding, kind of like my monthly.I went to emergency room, doctor says everything's fine, baby is fine, everything's normal, but they don't know why I was bleeding. Tonight I'm having a brownish discharge that smells like blood, (sorry for being gross). Is this normal, has anyone else had this? I have a doctor's appointment on Wednesday with my ob. I'm just worried.

  • They did three types of ultrasound and blood work everything came back fine. They said just take it easy until Wednesday. The bleeding wasn't heavy but was red, and stopped when I was at hospital.
  • I had an SCH with my lost baby (don't worry, it's not what caused the loss) and I had 5 ultrasound where it went undiagnosed. If it is any SCH you might end up seeing some heavier bleeding (I passed blood clots the size of a softball). Don't hesitate to go back to the ER if things get worse.
  • Thanks I'll call her tomorrow. Its kinda scary for me. At first they couldn't find the heart beat but after trying with a Doppler they got it, scariest 2 mins of mine and dh life. I know the baby is fine he is doing jumping jacks in my belly right now.
  • Definitely give your OB a call tomorrow; they may be able to see you sooner. Fx all is fine. Rest and do your best not to worry, which I know is almost impossible.

  • I had some bleeding around 18 weeks, ob did an exam and two ultrasounds, all looked good with no real explanation for the bleeding. They suggested taking it easy, no intercourse, and plenty of water for a couple of days to be safe. They mentioned it could have been a small clot that just worked its way out (not uncommon) or that the cervix got a bit engorged and bled a little (also not uncommon). My mom and mom-in-law mentioned the same thing happened to both of them. I know it's scary, but if your dr says it looks alright I really would just take it easy and not worry about it unless it happens again.
  • I had bright red bleeding about a month ago and it scared me to death. Went to the ER as well and saw a healthy baby with a strong heartbeat, turns out i had BV and they thjnk thats what caused my bleeding. If your ultrasounds and blood work came back good, try not to worry. Brown discharge is normal after bleeding. I had it as well after my bleeding. I also just found out I have a low lying placenta which may have caused the bleeding as well.

Try to relax and take it easy. If you're concerned, give your Dr a call for a little reassurance. Hope everything is okay!
  • I am so sorry. Thoughts and prayers your way. I hope you get lots of rest and feel better soon!
