Cyst anyone?

so I had my first ultrasound yesterday and dr found a 4 inch cyst on my lower right side. She said that it should go down on its own. Just wondering about other experiences? I keep getting sharp pinches and I'm trying to not get worked up over it.

Re: Cyst anyone?

  • Was the cyst on your right ovary? If so, that's totally normal. I've got one, though I haven't had any symptoms. If it's not on your ovary, I don't have any experience to share, but I would trust your doc. If the pain starts getting worse, then I would check back in with him/her.

  • I had a cyst on my left ovary that was 5cm at my first ultrasound in week 7. I had a second ultrasound at 12.5 weeks and it had shrunk down to 1.2cm on its own. I had no pain at all. My doctor and midwife both told me it was common and not to worry. If the cyst had gotten bigger they would have just monitored it closely and it might have caused me some pain, but it wouldn't have effected the baby. Try not to worry!!! Also don't google it because the results are all worst case scenarios! Cysts are common during pregnancy and you will be ok :) x x x
  • I had one at my first ultrasound. It went away by the next one.

  • The found a cyst against my right ovary at my 8 week TV U/S, Obgyn planned to observe & speculated it'll go down. Lo & behold, at my 12 week NT scan U/S, it shrunk to <2 cm and they saw a second smaller cyst. They'll be monitoring the cysts, most likely will be gone as the pregnancy progresses

  • First let me say, every experience is dif but this is mine!!
Ah cysts, the bane of my existence from 15 on. We did injectable fertility meds and are now 15 weeks pregs with twins (whoop whoop). I have HUGE cysts on both sides from the meds and my ovaries are enlarged. My 1st OB (evil) said def surgery and scared the crap out of me. We see a high risk doc bc I'm 36 (just turned) and I have a history of high blood pressure. The high risk doc and new OB said they're fine. If they cause me pain to call them but they do not hurt the babies and are super common. I do feel them, esp when the scan tech does her thing (she's a little rough) but other then the ones that burst in the first few weeks they don't really bother me. The type is important though, mine are standard fluid filled ovarian cysts.
Long story short (; try not to let them worry you. If you feel pain of course call your doc but as someone with quite a few large buggers I can tell you all is good and they aren't causing the babies any issues.
Best wishes from one super vigilant pregger to another. :)

Your doctor will need to monitor the cyst. Be an advocate for yourself, and remind your care providers about it if necessary.

    WARNING

A friend of mine had a cyst that was not properly monitored during her pregnancy. It was discovered in the ER at 7 weeks, but was not followed up on. She went in the hospital at 35 weeks with severe abdominal pain. They discovered by ultrasound that her ovary was then the size of a football. She had an emergency c-section that day, and lost her ovary. Her child and herself are fine, but it was a scary situation.

  • I had incredible pain when a cyst I had ruptured around 5-7 weeks at the beginning of my first pregnancy. They found another one, along with the debris of the first on a u/s. The pain eventually went away (though it was debilitating pain, that had me crying in sweats and bowled over). If you experience a lot of pain call your doc. From the way you describe your pain it may just be rlp.
  • I'm use to cysts have them all the time. I've had the same one on my left ovary for about the past 2 months. Doctor said its small and nothing to worry about though in my case.
  • I has one show up last pregnancy during my anatomy scan, baby also had a cyst on a neural tube. So we another scan at 28 weeks and both were gone. My first they found some during my c-section and drained them. I think as long as your doctor is keeping an eye on things I won't worry.
  • It depends on the type of cyst as well. I have an 11 cm endometrial cyst on my left ovary. It's scar tissue, so it won't rupture, but could leak. The major concern is that it can cause the ovary to contort or flip, leading to surgery. However, it shrunk within 4 weeks. They said usually if this surgery is necessary, it would've been within the first trimester. The main thing is to call your doctor or go straight to the ER if you have pain bad enough that you cannot talk or walk.
  • At my first ultrasound the doc said there was a cyst on my placenta. He didn't seem to concerned but I feel lik it's only natural to worry when you hear that word. I go back on nov. 13th so we'll see!
  • That happened to me last pregnancy, and it went away on its own.

  • I have one - doc said they are filled with hormones and are not bad for baby at all, but are rather awesome for hormone levels. Don't stress - no pain no gain. If u get bad pain hit up the ER.
