Trouble TTC a Sibling

Intro (*trigger warning*)

Hi everyone,

I'm 34 and as of Jan of this year, unsuccessfully trying for #2. I had trouble staying pregnant while trying for #1, but not enough trouble that we got any answers regarding the two miscarriages I had. When we decided to start trying for #2 in January, we got pregnant right away, but I lost the pregnancy at 13 weeks, right when I finally started to tell family and friends. Some of my students were even asking me if I was pregnant, which thankfully, I held off on answering.

Losing my first pregnancy was crushing since we were over the moon and let our hopes fly. I had never known anyone that had had a miscarriage. The women in my family got pregnant so easily. I was the first and I felt so alone. After the second miscarriage, I just felt pissed off. Even though my doctor told me to wait a cycle before trying again, I threw caution to the wind and refused. We got pregnant with my son and had a poster-child pregnancy. No spotting, no cramping, no weird lab results. Everything was perfect. Even the birth was perfect. (Whenever I let myself wallow in self-pity, I catch myself wondering if his pregnancy was perfect for a reason.. like it would be my one and only.)

After my third loss, I decided to finally try and get some answers, so I saw my doctor and she sent me off to get an ultrasound. She found that I probably needed a D&C, so she referred me to a surgeon who is also a RE. They had me go in for an MRI and told me that I had a 9-cm submucosal intrauterine fibroid that needed to come out, in addition to whatever it was that was left in my uterus (during the surgery, he found that whatever this was, it resolved itself). The surgery went well with no complications, so I was sent home and told to wait 3 cycles before trying again.

We waited and then tried as best as we could this past cycle. I didn't chart temps, but relied on an ovulation kit to guide us. I thought we were good to go, but it's not looking promising. I'm 2 days away from getting my period and just got a BFN. I'm not losing all hope, but I'm also wondering what my next step should be if we didn't get lucky this time. I don't want to waste time, if in fact there's an underlying issue that hasn't been uncovered yet.

That was a long intro. Thank you for taking the time to read it and I look forward to getting to know all of you on this board.

  • Thanks for the welcome, ladies. Unfortunately, my RE didn't think the fibroid was the cause of the losses, and said he had a hunch it was probably a hormone problem. His recommendation was to wait the 3 cycles, try again, and call back when we got pregnant. I've read TCOYF, although it was a while ago. I should be charting temps, but I didn't think it would work out with my 2-yr old disrupting my sleep pretty much every morning. I'm almost certain we're out for this cycle, so I'm going to go ahead and head back to fertility friend on cd1 and give charting another go. I just read in the board "welcome" post that I should've waited until after my 2WW to join, so I apologize for missing that.

    All are Welcome!

  • Thanks again for being so welcoming. This weekend was really hard since my most recent EDD was supposed to be October 22nd. I was being horrible to my husband for a few days and I couldn't figure out why I was acting so insane. Finally, it all just came pouring out last night. My SIL is due in December and I've been trying to deal with the jealousy and pain, especially since this week, we should've been having our own baby. I don't usually let myself think about these things because I try to avoid the spiral.. I guess it just snuck up on me. Or maybe it was due to peeing on sticks again.. sticks that don't show you what you want to see. Sigh..

At least we're having some freaking beautiful days up here in the northeast (although it's getting chillly!)

  • Welcome to the board. I'm currently in the process of dealing with a submucousal fibroid, but I've been told it is highly likely to be the reason for my two miscarriages this year. Either way, I'm happy you got it removed!

  • @LauraO11 I had a laparascopic myomectomy with just three small incisions, one of which was through my belly button. I was in pain for a day or two, and then pretty sore for maybe a week or two afterwards.
I guess the size and exact location of the fibroid are what they consider when trying to determine whether it could be causing pregnancy loss. I was hoping for a "yeap, that was the reason.. you're good to go, now!", but the doctor told me that it wasn't likely the cause in my case. I'm still kind of holding onto some hope that it was all I needed. I'm definitely out for this cycle, though.

I'm hoping that it's black and white in your case and that you have success after your surgery. Good luck!
