Trouble TTC

Ovulation Confirmation

I am just having one of those days where I question every little thing... I am currently on day 9 of my 2WW, and it occurred to me that nothing has been done for either of my injection cycles to confirm ovulation. Do your RE's test for progesterone or even do another U/S to be sure you ovulated? I am totally kicking myself for not temping. WTF am I thinking?? I hate leaving this up to chance, and if I get the BFN that I am totally expecting, I want to ensure that I am doing everything I can to get the timing exactly correct and give us the best chance possible.

Married 10/15/11
Started TTC 8/2012
8/12-8/13 - TTC Naturally

8/2013 - PCOS/anovulation diagnosis
8/2013 - Metformin + Clomid, no reaction (Not insulin resistant, but tried Metformin to see if it would make a difference.)
9 & 10/2013 - Femara, no reaction
12/2013 - Referred to RE
8-9/2014 - Follistim + Ovidril + TI= BFN
10/2014 - Follistim + Ovidril + TI=???

Re: Ovulation Confirmation

  • Whoa, do I know what you are talking about. I had never had my progesterone checked before this past cycle. I insisted this time just for my peace of mind. It showed that I had ovulated, just like my doctor said I would. Since you are doing the trigger, I think you can be pretty confident that you ovulated (although I know that it is nice to have definitive proof!) For me, it is really hard to not be in control of a situation. I will keep my fingers crossed for you! Best of luck!

Oh, also, about temping...the meds wreak serious havoc on temps. I continue to do so, but my readings are so wonkey that it is hard to pinpoint ovulation. It generally shows a real slow rise after the trigger shot, so it looks like I ovulate a few days after I should have. This leads to way more stress, but I am a glutton for punishment (and I love data) so I continue to do it. Long story short, don't really worry all that much that you weren't temping, it might just make you even more anxious. Trust the trigger :)

  • We never did anything to confirm ovulation, but from what I was told the trigger shot pretty much guarantees it.  I was also told that meds mess with temps, so I haven't been temping at all.  It has been difficult, but also somewhat freeing to stop temping and charting and to just trust my RE with all of this stuff.

  • My RE has never tested to confirm O. After my IUI, the next time I go back is for beta

  • hmm - I've only been with my RE for 2 full cycles, but they always test after O to see if I did or not.  They do an ultrasound and a blood test.
  • The trigger will make you ovulate.  They can never say 100% because of human error, but it's pretty much 100%. I also didn't temp much during medicated cycles since the meds mess up your temps.  You only have a few more days to test, so hang in there!
