Adding Vitamins to Formula?

Do you have to add things like Vitamin D to formula? I'm switching from BM to formula and have been adding vitamin D drops as directed by our Pedi. He failed to mention anything about it when we spoke about switching to formula, and I thought about it as I was making up a mixed bottle for LO. The only other thing I add is Gripe Water.
I'm aware that you can give those things to kids with out putting it in the bottle, but I find it easier to mix it in.

Re: Adding Vitamins to Formula?

  • My pedi also said to add vitamins since bf, but I knew I would be starting formula soon and he said that I didn't need to add the vitamins if using formula.

  • My pedi recommend adding the drops til she was eating 30oz a day.
  • My pedi recommended at our first apt. We bought the drops and were putting them in 1 bottle each day but LO would make faces and do a lot of spitting up with that bottle so we stopped.
  • I was supplementing (more at first than later) but our doc said to give her Vit D regardless of amt of formula.
  • My pedi just recommends adding Vit D. I mix it with 2 oz of formula (or pumped BM if I have any) and feed that to LO first because she usually drinks at least that much. I also mix in a baby probiotic.
