May 2014 Moms

Um, OUCH.

Well, any doubts I had about whether or not LO was getting (a, possibly both) bottom tooth (teeth?) is now answered thanks to his very first boob-biting. It hurt like a muther. I am still wincing and cupping my nip several hours later. What do you do when LO decides to use your boob as a chew toy?

My older DS seemed quite concerned, as we have had so many talks about not biting friends at school in the past few years, (he has been good about it but recently received a bite from a 3 year old at pre-school) so when I shouted to MH that the baby bit me, my DS immediately came to see what the commotion was and chided the baby. lol.

Re: Um, OUCH.

  • I had this on my mind too. I know LO is just in the verge of having his teeth pop out. The other night he pinched my so hard with his gums I yelped out of surprise.

  • My DD doesn't yet have teeth but she is close. She has chomped down on me a couple times. I read that you're supposed to remove them them from the breast, look them in the eye and sternly say "no". Not sure if it will work but that's what I did the first 2 tines she did it and she didn't do it again for a couple weeks.

This is exactly what I did. Seems to have worked. For now.

  • My LO has gummed my nipples pretty hard a few times and she's into the pinching too. I take her off and say "ouch!"

  • I flicked her in the cheek once (not hard) and said no no because she chomped down and wouldn't let go . She thought this was funny. She pretty much thinks anything I do that interrupts nursing while trying to go to sleep is funny because she thinks she gets to stay awake. She does it every once in a while still especially when she wants to suck and not eat but milk is coming out. She did it again recently and I pulled her off and said no but kept rocking and wouldn't let her have it back for a minute. She didn't do it again after that at least not during that feeding. I'm scared for when she has teeth!

  • We got the two bottoms last week. He has bitten a few times.
  • I think you just pause and don't turn it into a game.  Excited reaction ("no" or otherwise) might work if it scares the kid, but if it amuses them it will just become a fun game.
Yeah, LO just laughed when I yelled in surprise. I am worried he may think it's a game... yikes.
