Pregnant after a Loss

lots of new faces, GTKY :)

I've noticed a lot of new intros lately, so first, welcome and congrats to everyone. :)
Since we often include GTKYs in sub group threads, I thought it might be nice to start an open one for everyone to get in on.

I'm always looking for great boos to add to our Little Free Library, so I thought a book thread would be interesting.

What's your favourite book? Too many to choose? Maybe a children's book? What's on your shelves ladies?
:)

Re: lots of new faces, GTKY :)

  • I love to read, Jane Austen to Stephen King and everything else. Lately I'm reading a lot of baby books. "Love you Forever" is a tear jerker esp after i learned the writer wrote it after a loss. ack, i'm choking up just thinking about it!!

My heart is as open as the sky.
Read about it on the blog

DS1 LOVED books so for him:  Go, Dog, Go (which he had memorized at 2 years old), Pajama Time (which we read/sing EVERY night) and Barnyard Dance (which MH would read and they would do all the dance steps together and we'd giggle!).
barnyard dance is a favorite of DS's too.  he also loves a book about a garbage truck called "i stink!" and a couple classics that i know i had when i was a kid...my mom probably had them too, lol: "mike sullivan and his steam shovel" and "katie and the big snow".

myself, i've been into series a lot, a lot of which is at least a little fantasy.  outlander et al, garth nix's abhorsen trilogy, his dark materials, harry potter, and also steig larsson's dragon tattoo books, among others.  i also like jane austen a lot, for all that the writing style for her time is kind of hard to get into.  fiction all the way.  i don't like to think too hard when i'm reading.  haha

@longcat07 - you reminded me of his other favorite book!  Little Blue Truck.  The original and the one where he goes into the city.
OMG little blue truck!  we have both of those too. at one point, we weren't actually reading them to him, we were letting him just turn pages and play with it while we recited it from memory.  "HONK cried the dump and he sounded scared, but nobody heard (or nobody cared)."  we'd have DS fill in all the honks/beeps and the animal sounds.

  • I don't get the chance to read much right now, but I love just about anything by James Patterson.  My other favorites are The Hobbit, LOTR, Sense and Sensibility, and The Shining.

DS' favorites are That's Not My Lion, any book that features Sesame Street characters, and Dr Seuss's The Foot Book.
  • My favourite adult books are anything by Simon Winchester and his non-fiction-fiction like The Professor and the Madman and The Map that Changed the World. Also, by Tim Smit, The Lost Gardens of Heligan - a story about his restoration project of a Victorian garden uncovered..totally incredible.

My favourite children's story is by far The Little Prince. For children and adults about people, places, and self. Heartwarming.

:) I'm loving all the children's books titles - I'm not familiar with many of them ..looking forward to reading them to Oliver and adding them to Finn's Little Library. xo

  • I'm a sucker for a good True Crime book. Right now I'm reading House Of Secrets, By Lowell Cauffiel
    Favorite children's book. Goodnight Moon.
  • For a long while, Guess How Much I Love You was our night time book. DD does love "Hop on Pop" and any book about babies for day time reading though. I'd like to pick up Green Eggs and Ham because I really like that one myself ;)

Adult books. I love (most) Truman Capote. To Kill A Mockingbird is a perennial fave. I haven't been reading much lately, but I should make time for it :)

  • Love this question. I'm a writer and, as my SN says, books are pretty much my life. My favorite book that I've read recently was "Eleanor & Park" by Rainbow Rowell. It's YA, which I don't read a lot of, but the book was just so beautiful and heartfelt. My favorite children's book to read to DS is "When We Were Very Young" by A.A. Milne (same person who wrote Winnie the Pooh). It's silly poems and drawings.

DD LOVES books, so we read a lot of kids books. Some of her faves right now are Hippos Go Berserk!, If You Give a Moose a Muffin / Pig a Pancake, Bears on Wheels, Doggies, Press Here, Goodnight Little Bear, any Clifford books, and any Disney princess books.

  • Books for me, I love anything James Patterson or Gillian Flynn type books... then there are the guilty pleasures of 50 shades and the Sylvia Day Series.

For kids, "Bunny my Honey" will be one that we read and frequent, mainly because it has a special meaning for me. My para in my class when I taught that became an amazing friend was killed 2 years ago, we used to read that book EVERY year to our classes, and it became a staple, the kids loved it. We had it on tape and used to mock the voices to each other. So that for sure and I Love you Forever, since my mom used to read it to me... and its beautiful :)

  • I love books - of all shapes and sizes.  I read a lot of trashy romance novels - quick throw-away reads but when I have more time, I read Stephen King (except the Dark Tower series which I could never get into for some reason) - I'm not sure what my favorite SK book is but possibly It or The Stand.

I also love historical fiction (John Jakes, William Martin).  DH has gotten me into some fantasy but I just dabble in that really.

I'm a sucker for Nicholas Sparks - in fact I need to re-read Best of Me so that I can get DH to take me to the movies.

And I like Young Adult series - Twilight, Hunger Games, Divergent

  • For adults, I love the Stephanie Plum series by Janet Evanovich.  They are easy reads and always make me laugh.

For kids, there are just too many to say.  But, there is a book called The Surprise Doll that was my mom's that I remember reading at my grandmother's house when I played with my mom's old dolls.  I ran across a 60th anniversary edition of the book at a bookstore about a year ago.  At the time, I bought it thinking I would send it to my BFF's little girl for her birthday or something, but before that rolled around, I found out that we were pregnant again and I decided to keep it in case I was having a girl.  Once we found out its a girl, I was glad I held onto it.
