What's your most comfortable sleep position?

I'm usually a stomach sleeper, so I'm having trouble getting used to sleeping on my side. Since 12 weeks, I just can't get comfortable. I wake up 2-3 times each night. Pillows help, but don't stay put.

What helps you get to sleep comfortably?

Re: What's your most comfortable sleep position?

  • Fetal position surrounded by pillows.

I'm still happily sleeping on my back but I know those nights are numbered. I plan on getting a snoogle for when I'm side sleeping.

So jealous. I can't lay on my back for more than 10 minutes without hurting.
  • I'm a stomach sleeper so this is starting to really suck. I've began putting my leg up on a pillow and putting my forearm under the hip that's actually on the bed, just so I can sleep somewhat on my stomach. Once my arm falls asleep, I switch to the other side.

  • I still stomach sleep with no issues. Side sleeping is okay or sleeping on my back with my arms up around my head feels good

  • Eh, side I guess. I'm forcing myself to get used to the snoogle. I've always been an every position sleeper, but stomach doesn't work anymore and back gets uncomfortable after a while. Side is best but not nearly as comfortable as it used to be. My back is telling me I was doing it wrong last night.
  • I feel lucky, I've always slept on my right side, and still have no issues getting comfy
  • I usually fall asleep on my right side (for whatever reason, left side just isn't as comfortable).  I sleep now with the snoogle between my legs and my arms wrapped around it like I'm hugging a stuffed animal.  However, I love sleeping on my stomach with either my arms under the pillow or tucked under my chest-which I know sounds weird.  If I wake up in the middle of the night, usually the only way that I can fall back asleep is on my stomach.

Technically I can still sleep on my stomach, but my OB recommend that I really work hard not to so that when I actually can't do it any more, my body has been trained to fall back asleep.

  • I sleep on my stomach and then slowly roll to my sides as I bigger. Right now I can still sleep on my stomach.

Half on my right side, half on my stomach. I started to get paranoid about it with my last pregnancy, since they say sleeping on the left side is best. My doctor reassured me that if the way I was sleeping was causing problems, I would move around or wake up naturally, especially since I was having a normal, healthy pregnancy.
ETA: my poor, right boob throbs in the MOTN and sometimes wakes me up. This happened with my last pregnancy too :((

  • I've had to start wearing a sports bra to bed. My boobs were big enough before pregnancy, now I have to reign them in.

My husband and I have our own comforters, in non-summer seasons anyway. I use it to prop up my belly, put it between my boobs, and between my legs. I also hug it with my arms all night. Its heavenly.

    ^ This exactly!
Ditto! I cannot fall asleep unless I'm on my stomach, but it's definitely starting to get uncomfortable. May need to get a body pillow soon... I'm sure DH will be thrilled  8-|

  • None of them! Ugh. Eventually I'll build a pillow castle and retreat into that for the night. DH is practicing sleeping on the very edge of the bed.

  • Isleep on my side (left) but wake up with an aching hip. Looking forward to receiving my double snoogle pillow from Amazon next week!
  • I go to sleep on my left side, right arm and leg across DH, and I make him rub my lower back...then I can only fall asleep after the trillion pee breaks if I'm on my right side and have a pillow filling in for DH minus back rubbing:(
I'm a stomach sleeper and with this crazy bump that's popped this is as close as I get to that comfort zone
  • I've slept on my stomach my entire life. I've been trying to sleep on my side ever since I found out I was pregnant. It totally sucks! I toss and turn all night. I'm thinking of getting a snoogle this weekend to help.
  • I need a new bed and pillow!!! Nothing is comfortable for me anymore. No more stomach and no more right side for some reason. So left side it is for now. :((

I am lucky to have always been a side sleeper..the worst thing I deal with now is rolling over to my other side and not crushing my newly massive tits. I can't tell you how many times they woke up in since my BFP

  • I'm a big fan of sleeping on your side with your legs twisted too. Also, shove a king size or body pillow under your bump, it will ease the pressure.

  • @souptin‌ as long as you're counting pees when you wake up, at least it's not a total loss, right? ;)

I'm a stomach sleeper who's still forcing the issue at 13w. I'm now in the modified stomach position known as the "flamingo" to extend as long as possible. The down side is DH is also a flamingo sleeper. And 6'2. In a queen sized bed. With 60 and 90+ lb dogs who like to take turns sleeping in the bed. Sooooo flamingo isn't always an option, and I begrudgingly shift to back/side lean. And then wake up 837362 times.
  • I start out on my left side with a pillow between my knees and usually wake up on my right side and the pillow has made it's way to the floor. I sleep in whichever position is comfortable.
  • Flamingo! That's so funny - that's my modified stomach position now. I'm trying to squeeze out every last night I can on the front before it's impossible. It's all going down hill from here ladies. I turn into an angry fish at night as that belly grows, flip-flopping from side to side with my giant pillow between my knees, not giving a damn who's in my way. And the hip pain....ugh...I am so not looking forward. I'll enjoy the flamingo while it lasts.

  • I've always slept on my belly and I sleep like a baby every time. If I fall asleep on the side my limbs fall asleep. Its a no win! But I have to start getting used to it. So I shall use yalls advice and try lots of pillows, thanks ladies!

  • I was a snoogle sleeper prior to pregnancy and loved it...now I don't even know if I could sleep without it. Money well spent.
  • This is a mythical question. Sleeping position? I haven't slept peacefully in 2 weeks. I sleep with a pillow everywhere that my body lays. I take blankets and place it under my belly. And lastly I toss and turn until about 3:30 am and sleep until 7. Invest in a full body pillow that takes over the whole bed and if you have a significant other well they'll have to get used to the idea of you cuddling with a giant pillow instead of them.
  • I fall asleep in the "recommended" way but I wake up in random positions and places on my bed.
  • @brazily - my DH calls my body pillow my boyfriend, who gets way more action than he does.

  • I've always been a side sleeper due to large boobs and back issues. Sleep this way now, but definitely needing a pillow for between my legs.
