Speaking of giving birth... STM breech question

Benjamin was breech until turning at 38 weeks. Which my dr said was very rare as they don't usually have room to turn that late. Luckily he did because I had to induce at 39 due to PIH. Anyways I was wondering if any of you had multiple pregnancies where baby was breech. Or is it just a fluke thing and this one should turn like normal?

I am very curious about this since my son didn't turn head down until 39 weeks and two days.

For what it's worth, my friend had a C-section since her daughter was breech, but her second daughter was head down.

I agree with previous poster regarding the reason for the breech presentation, uterus malformations can cause a problem with breech presentation. I have one myself that may have caused my son to be breech for so long.

  • My last one was breech until 37 weeks, then flipped as his own as we started talking about doing a version. Like @QSB we wanted to do everything we could to avoid a c-section.
    Due with #5 April 22, 2015. It's a girl!!!!!

Yes it was planned, yes we know what causes that, no we are not on public assistance, and yes we will be getting cable after this. ;)

  • Both of my children were breech all the way to birth so I had 2 c-sections. We will see with this next one what happens but planning on c-section again. My doctor has mentioned that she thinks my uterus is at an angle or turned in a way causing my babies to sit breech. I have never had any testing for that...it was just a thought on her part.

I had an "unstable lie" with our 5th child. He flipped back and forth between breech and head down for weeks. I had a version that was successful, and he was born a couple days later. I refused to go straight to a c-section just because of breech presentation. There are risks to a c-section, and there are risks to a version. I did some research, and the risk of a version was less than an automatic c-section from the evidence I saw.

Not everyone is a good candidate for a version. I wasn't, because of my uterus malformation. I really wanted a vaginal birth, but after trying everything from acupuncture, to spinning baby exercises, to chiropractic care I chose a c-section over breech extraction. I was able to have the vaginal birth I wanted. One more thing to think about is that the success rate of a version is much lower in first pregnancy as well.

  • I have two kids. One was always head down, the other didn't turn until 36 weeks. I remember reading some statistical data and if I remember correctly, your risk of having multiple breech pregnancies depends at least partially on your anatomy. If it's just breech by chance and not due to something anatomical, your chances of having another breech baby aren't any higher than anyone else.

  • My DS was complete breech and not a hospital or midwife in my province will deliver complete breech. I had him by csection, unfortunately, and I mourned my lack of a vaginally birth. I tried everything out there to flip him but to no avail. From what my doc said, the chances of breech presentation are 3-4% and something like 8-9% if you've had a previous breech presentation but the higher chances are due to anatomy. I'm really hoping for a vaginal birth this time.
