AW: Shit just got real...

I went for my first monitoring appointment this morning, and I have one 21mm follicle on my right ovary and an 18mm on my left. The RE who did the u/s said that I have about a 20% chance of getting pregnant, and if I do, it's about a 5% chance that it could be twins because there are two mature follies. I'm not super worried about multiples because my left tube is blocked, so really, how much of a chance is there that the egg over there would end up fertilized? I know the other tube can pick up the egg, but from what I've read, that's not very likely.

Anyway, she's waiting to get my blood work results (they tested LH to make sure I'm not already surging, but my OPKs say I'm not surging yet), and then she's going to call to schedule Monday's appointment. If we're good to go for Monday, I'll trigger tonight. My H had planned on giving me the injection, but he's in out of town until tomorrow, so I guess I'm on my own. Eeek. I don't have issues with needles, but giving myself an injection for the first time is a little scary. I know a lot of you can relate!

I wasn't expecting that this morning at all. I thought I'd have at least one more monitoring appointment before the IUI, so it was bit of a surprise to hear that I'll be triggering tonight. I guess it's a good thing, though, because that means Monday will be the only day next week that I need to miss time from work.

Think good thoughts for me.

@PetraStonegirl, I'm sure I'm going to laugh at myself for being nervous after it's done and over with. Everything I've read says injections are a piece of cake, but I'm a nervous nelly in general. Thanks for the advice!

I stood in my kitchen the first time staring at my belly, needle in hand, until my hands were shaking and adrenaline was surging. When I finally stabbed, I had to look sideways to see if the needle was even in. I felt like such a doofus afterwards.

BK2 you can do it! I've done 4 triggers and I laughed at myself for how nervous I was once it was done! Those are some nice follies, lady! FX for you!

I cannot give myself the shot, because i am petrified of needles, but i can say it's pretty painless. The anticipation is always worse. FX. WE triggered today too, so feel free to hit me up if your crazy hits, we can ride out out together.

As for the needle, you are going to laugh about this later, because the worst thing about giving yourself a shot is the anticipation. You'll stand there, syringe in hand, hesitating and fussing and when you finally get up the nerve and stab... yeah, not too bad at all.

Just remember, let the alcohol dry, orient the needle's bevel towards body center (cut face towards belly button for belly shots, elongate tip of needle closer to your hand), fast stab/slow injection are the keys to a painless shot. I'm well over 1000 self-administered shots at this point. :P

All of this. The anticipation is SOOOO much worse then the actual shot. While I haven't given myself nearly 1000, I'm well over 100. FX for you!

Welp, it's official. My LH and E2 were "normal," so I'm good to trigger tonight at 9:30pm, and my IUI appointment is at 9:30am on Monday! Now I just need to work out the logistics with my H. With traffic, it could potentially take me an hour or more to get to the RE, but I know he wants nothing to do with producing a sample in the office....

I have to agree about the Trigger - anticipation was a lot worse. I think I stood in my kitchen all prepped and ready to go, needle in hand and just froze the first time. After a few deep breaths I did it and it really wasn't terrible. Just take a deep breath and go for it. GL!!

That was kind of my experience as well. I was so stressed and then I barely felt it!

This cycle, I also only had 1 monitoring appt, @BethKate2‌ I did already have a positive opk though. They wanted to do IUI then, but DH was already at work
