Okay...this may be a long post. I'm from Manitoba, Canada and here we typically have one ultrasound per "normal" pregnancy (covered by health insurance) at the 20 week mark. I had my first appointment with my midwife yesterday at 12 weeks. When she examined me she noticed my fundal height was somewhere between the 16-18 week mark. She immediately asked if I had my dates correct. I am sure I did as we were actively trying with this one, I was taking a pregnancy test every month and the first 'positive' result I got was from a clearblue test that indicated I was 1-2 weeks (3-4 weeks corrected) the day of my expected period. She had a second midwife come in to confirm the position of my uterus without telling her how many weeks I believed I was. She also put me at between 16-18 weeks. She immediately scheduled an 'urgent' ultrasound for me...but the wait-times here are around 3 weeks. (the joys of public health-care). She informed me one of two things - I'm either 4-6 weeks out on my dates or it could be twins. She is pushing for the ultrasound earlier because if I am in fact out on my dates I have a very short window to have my maternal serum screening done (and any other time-sensitive tests/screenings. The anxiety of waiting/not knowing is killing me. The only thing different I have noticed between this pregnancy and my last was 1. I was showing a LOT earlier (last time I popped around the 20 week mark) and I am currently 12 weeks and into my "comfy pants" 2. I have been exhausted - but thinking this could also be attributed to the fact that I'm two years older, this is my second pregnancy and I'm chasing around a toddler. Anyone have any thoughts? I'm just feeling very lost and anxious.
Re: Possible newbie?
Just hang in there. You'll have answers soon enough. I assume she attempted to check for multiple heartbeats via doppler, at least?
