Noisy sleeper?

So the past couple nights the baby has been SO noisy when he sleeps. It's constant whining and grunting. Is this normal? He's swaddled in the rock n play so I wonder if he's not comfortable... But he appears to be sleeping, just noisy. He doesn't seem to make much noise when I hold him for naps.

I cannot wait to get him in his own room! I'm just not QUITE ready yet...

My LO is a very noisy sleeper. She grunts and whines in her sleep. Usually she sleeps right through it and other times it's when she's only half asleep that she'll make that noise. She also farts really loud in her sleep. I swear she and my DH play who can fart the loudest in the MOTN.

    Edited because words are hard.
  • Yes! Drives me bananas!
  • I have a baby that is NEVER quit. If he is awake he is crying or shrieking. If he's asleep he is grunting, sighing, or making some kind of noise. The worst is now he makes like a crying noise in his sleep, which of course makes me wake up and check.
I never experienced this with my dd.

  • I'm glad I'm not the only one with a noisy baby. Do they outgrow this? or does it not get picked up by the baby monitor? Because I've never heard another baby make these sounds before.

I think most babies are noisy sleepers when they are newborns, but they do outgrow it. My daughter was a grunter, but not to the extent that my son is. I can't recall when she started sleeping more restfully, but I promise it will get better.

  • I hate when he cries or screams like he's in pain, then farts but stays asleep. It makes me sad.

It gets better as they get older. Except now my toddler talks in his sleep and I can here it over the monitor and I think he's awake!

Omg...yes....my DS1 does this too! Drives me crazy.....between him talking in his sleep and my LO grunting, moaning, choking/gagging from reflux.....I rarely sleep these days.

  • Yes mine does this too. It's the worst when she's asleep in her rock n play in the nursery, because that means I'm asleep just inches away and it really interferes with my sleep. I always think she's just about to wake up, but it could be another hour or more.
  • I don't know how many times I've thought she was waking up in the middle night ready to eat only to put my glasses on, turn on the light, and then realize she's still happily passed out but grunting the night away.

This. I swear my chunky monkey gets over fed by me because I think he's waking up ready to eat but he's just a noisy little piggy still asleep. I've asked the pedi so many times about this and she's totally fine with it. He's just so gassy.

I can't even describe some of the noises my little girl makes!!! The noises are constant.
The best one I have heard so far started yesterday. Some times she shrieks in her sleep, think of the most high pitch girly shriek you can think of. It scared me so bad the first time it happened!

I always worry that she is uncomfortable as well but she sleeps right on through.

The worst part is to my right is my snoring husband, to my left is my grunting baby. Sometimes I just lay awake listening to them! Lol.

My girl shrieks too! She's done it since the first night. Scares me everytime. I look at her and she's sound asleep.

  • Yes, our LO is a very noisy sleeper as well.  She is in our room, swaddled in her RNP with white noise as well. We have found that ear plugs (the soft, spongy kind - bought at Walmart) helps to drown it out.

  • Between the grunting and the whining (that sounds like a caged shih tzu) I lay there laughing thinking shit if I fall asleep right now I can get 30 mins before her next feeding.
  • My DS is a loud sleeper as well. I can't wait till he outgrows it!

  • YES!  DS makes little noises most of the night.  It doesn't bother me though - at least I know he is still breathing!

  • So, an add an to this, didn't want to starting new thread since it's similar, but LO usually grunted a little in his sleep, and when he was either gassy or waking up. Just tonight, though, he sounds like he is whining in his sleep. Not the occasional whine you hear when they're falling asleep, it sounds almost like he's sleep talking or having a bad dream. Anyone else's LO do THIS? I thought at first his airway was blocked, but everything seems fine. I talk in my sleep, so I was wondering if that's the start of it for him.
  • DS will have a few whimpers in his sleep here and there. And pout his lips once and awhile. Or make a sad face. No idea why but he's been fine every time I checked him. He just stays asleep afterward too.
