Braxton Hicks

I'm 27 wks 2 dys FTM and I can't tell if i'm having Braxton Hicks contractions or not.. My stomach is always hard, But I haven't noticed or felt it hardening more at any point. No pains other than the round liagment ones....had anyone made it this far without feeling it? Or can tell me what to look for?

Re: Braxton Hicks

  • When I was pregnant with my first baby, I didn't feel any braxton hicks until the very end (as in a day or two before I went into labor). I'm sure I had them before then, but it's pretty common for a FTM to not feel them.

  • I can definitely tell when I'm experiencing BH. Like PP mentioned, the uterus tightens for a short while. It can be uncomfortable, but usually not described as painful.

  • I'm 29 weeks and haven't felt any yet.

  • With my first, I didn't think that I had any. I only realized with my second what they felt like - for me it was pressure, like baby was stretching out or something (but all over, with no body parts sticking out). Looking back, I had a ton.

Mine come on if I walk up a flight of stairs quickly, have an orgasm, or am dehydrated. They are uncomfortable for sure (unlike last pregnancy).

    Edit: words are hard.

  • I hardly ever noticed them the first time. Baby #2 I started getting them at 20 weeks, and often. I'm way more diligent drinking water this time, not getting them break as often with #3.
  • Mine kind of take my breath away, I feel pressure and tightness.
  • I'm a ftm too and I'm 29 weeks today. I believe I may have felt 1 or 2 recently and only because I described the feeling (a tightening feeling) to my mom and she said that it sounded like bh to her. I know it lasted about less than a minute and it didn't exactly hurt but wasn't too comfortable. Also I just didn't think it was the baby moving, as it felt different than when he moves.

All women are different and each pregnancy even so while one woman may feel some earlier, some may not.
  • I can't tell if I've had any. I have times where my belly felt tight, but it lasted for a while and was not repeated. I think maybe baby was just stretching?
  • I don't remember these last time but I've been having them the last few days. My stomach tightens and I also get breathless. They aren't painful. I'm 26+

  • I didn't think I'd ever felt them with my first until my OB was doing an examination, and said, "You're having one right now! Can't you feel that?" Um, yes....I just thought it was the baby stretching or something. I don't know, but that's what it felt like to me.
Definitely not abnormal for a FTM to not notice them. I notice them now just because I know what they are, but they're not painful--just a tightening sensation.
  • I didn't have any BH during my first pregnancy until 34+ weeks. Although it is possible that I was having them sooner and just didn't know it. With this pregnancy, I've only had BH a handful of times. For me, it feels like my uterus/stomach is tightening or like a *twisting* feeling inside. Sometimes it's uncomfortable but never painful and lasts about 30 seconds to a minute.

This exactly! Same thing happened to me last week at my 28w appt. I had no clue.
