Baby shower/registry help!

This may come out weird but my baby shower is a week away. I invited like 45-50 people and only like 15 are going. Which is still a good size but I'm looking at my registry and only a few. And I mean 8 items(to be exact) are purchased. My shower is next week. Should I assume that people have already bought a gift elsewhere? Because there are items that I will need such as my diaper bag, boppy, bottles that have not been purchased. Should I just buy them myself now? What'd you do with the items that you needed that weren't bought off your registry?

Re: Baby shower/registry help!

  • I just wasn't sure if that was ok to do. I'm not sure if everyone is done buying or not, I understand not everyone goes by the registry

  • Ok I'm sensing this blog is no different than others. Looking for support not an argument.
  • I'd wait and see. We had only a fraction of the items bought off the registry, or so it seemed, but we received a TON of gifts. We were very lucky and blown away by people's generosity.

There were a lot of things bought off registry, and lots from the registry but they didn't appear on there as "purchased". My guess for those is the purchaser didn't give the registry documents to the cashier for scanning. So even what is bought off the registry can be misleading.

Wait and see how the shower goes, and then take it from there!

  • I'm not sure why you're not happy with the responses. Everyone is answering your question and no one has been rude. You should keep in mind though that many people will pick up a baby shower gift a few days before (or even the day of) the shower. Wait and see what you get and then buy whatever else you need. If you want to go shopping now just make sure whatever you buy is marked as purchased so if anyone does look at the registry they'll see you don't need it.

  • I would wait and see what you get at your shower. There are many people that will wait until last minute to purchase a gift and there are others that won't give the registry to the cashier so the item is never taken off.

I didn't get a lot of items off my registry. I had a girl and the majority of people bought cutesy clothes. I just purchased what I needed afterwards. I had been given some cash at my shower and used some of that.

  • Wait and see what you get. While people might not get exactly what's on your registry, there might be some items that are substitutes for what's on your list. For instance, a friend got me a "my brest friend" pillow instead of the boppy on my registry because it had worked better for her. Many people gave me blankets that weren't on my registry, but enabled me to take other blankets off it. You also might get gift cards. So just chill for a week.

  • Is there a reason you can't wait until after the shower to buy the things you don't get? Your shower is a week away, and there are most likely a couple people who haven't even thought about what they are going to get you yet. At the last baby shower I attended, my friend and I both went shopping the day of the shower.
  • Somebody needs to relax. OP, just wait until you've actually had the shower. There's no need to be anxious over it and stalk your registry for what has or hasn't been purchased.
  • My shower was last weekend, and while it seemed like only a fraction of the items on our registry had been purchased, in reality, we received many more that hadn't been correctly scanned or marked as completed.

Baby clothes are something that people like to choose on their own. So you'll likely receive lots of those that aren't on your registry, not to mention handmade gifts!

I recommend waiting until after your shower to see what still need to purchase. You may find, like I did, that you may also get some gift cards that you can pool to buy the items left over.
  • Definately wait until after the shower to do any shopping. There could be people buying gifts on the day of. Afterthat you will need to buy whatever else you'll need. I too will be having a VERY small shower (but they are ladies I love to death!) so I know we will be purchasing quite a bit on our own. My only suggestion would be to not rip everything open or start washing stuff so if it is exchangeable you can return it for what you need.

  • I had my baby shower last week and according to the list only 2 things were purchased, But I received about 50% of the items and a lot of people gave me gift cards to purchase certain items since my shower was out of state. Between both of those my registry was completely purchased!
So, don't worry! I'd wait til after the shower to purchase anything!

  • I obsessively stalked my registry. I got super excited every time someone was bought and got super nervous every time I logged in near the end because I was worried there was going to be so much stuff left for us to buy. It did me no good! We received virtually everything we really needed off our registry and more. Some people just didn't properly get it rung up so it would come off the registry, or bought it somewhere else. My advice, even though i didn't follow it for myself, stop looking at the registry until the shower is over! And definitely don't buy anything till it's over, you will probably have returns and gift cards after the shower anyhow.
  • It's just an honest question, and a good one coming from a first time mommy... responses (not all) have been rude for sure. I think people are making too many assumptions by this poor lady's question.

I would wait until after your shower if I were you to go on a shopping spree for the rest of the necessities. Some times people find better deals elsewhere for the same item you put on your registry.

    Good luck girly!

From experience, I noticed that a lot of people wait until the last minute to purchase things for showers.  When I browsed my registry, I didn't start noticing things disappear until the day before the shower.  Although I would prefer my guests to purchase what I've registered for, it's not realistic.  You'll see a lot of people just purchase whatever from where ever. So that also might be why you're not seeing this "disappear" from your registry.

Something to note is many places will give you a discount to purchase remaining items off your registry.  Therefore, I would hold off buying anything for yourself until all your showers are finished.  Then, go back, see what you didn't get that's a MUST HAVE and use your discount to purchase! I know I had to buy my own Boppy and bottles and the completion discount was very helpful!

  • My husband and I decided to buy all the big items and then wait until after the shower to pick up the little things. It is nice to have all of the actual necessities taken care of. After the shower I will use the completion discounts to get what is left. However, we were lucky enough to get hand me downs and we are being minimalist. My registry literally has about 20 items.
  • Wait an see what you get then go buy what you need yourself
